  1. The no beard policy is so stupid. I'm shocked its still a thing given todays PC culture haha.
  2. Funny how in May/June so many posters on here wanted the Jays to trade for Benintendi. He doesn't suck. He's not an elite guy by any stretch, but can be a solid guy for the Yankees. Then again, some guys just can never play well in New York...
  3. JP Riccardi was a good GM. Definitely underrated and got a lot more hate from the Toronto media than he deserved.
  4. Looks like the Stanton injury is more serious. Don't see them rushing Stanton back quickly given their lead in the division anyways. Benintendi with the short right field porch can be a nice fit at Yankee Stadium and provides the Yankees with nice OF depth even when Stanton gets back.
  5. Offensively, the Jays were amazing in 2006. Reed Johnson, Frank Catalanatto, Vernon Wells, Troy Glaus, Lyle Overbay, Alex Rios, Eric Hinske, Shea Hillenbrand, Bengie Molina, and Gregg Zaun. Pitching wise, Burnett missed a good chunk though, and like you said Towers and Chacin came nowhere close to their 2005 seasons and s*** the bed. They only had Doc and Lilly in the rotation until they got Burnett in June. Outside of those guys, they had no other viable SP options. Janssen as a starter looked alright in his first couple of starts, though he wasn't reliable. BJ Ryan was lights out as a closer. Also, defensively, the Jays were a bit sloppy. Russ Adams was awful. Boston and the Yankees were still power houses which made it tough for the Jays to break through.
  6. Jesse Litsch was a nice guy. In 2010, he came to chill with me and my friend for a bit at the bar at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia when the Jays were doing that home series there. He said he was bffs with Ryan Howard haha.
  7. I remember the first message board fantasy baseball league was in 2007. It was the Fantasy Challenge and was a redraft league for 2007 and 2008 and then before 2009 decided to make it a dynasty league. Afterwards other leagues followed.
  8. I still have mine and it's a huge chick magnet.
  9. Gustavo Chacin and Josh Towers were the best pitchers on the Jays in 2005. They actually both had solid years then after became dumpster fires.
  10. I've been around here since 2004. I remember guys like the Hurl at that time still had hair.
  11. Meh if he rebounds next season, increases his value somewhat and they need someone to eat innings.
  12. Would be nice to open a Blue Jays Museum on the 100 level concourse if there is space.
  13. Giants losing 6 straight, yikes!
  14. Jays don't have two workhorses like Scherzer and Stras. As for Stras, the 2019 didn't destroy him. He was always fragile to begin with and babied before, and I'm sure the 2020 season messed him up along with many other starters in terms of preparation and training for the shortened season. Like you said lucky he cashed in at the right time. Even remember, Verlander missed all of 2020 and 2021. That COVID 2020 season messed up a lot of things.
  15. If the Jays missed out on Castillo, Rodon or Quintana, would love to see Thor as a No. 4 starter here.
  16. Better than Kikuchi.
  17. Is there an Andrew Miller available at this deadline though? I agree a reliever like Miller could make a huge difference in a short Postseason series especially with all the off-days.
  18. Thor bobblehead for next season!
  19. Speaking of starting pitching, what about Merrill Kelly from Arizona? He's having a nice season and is under club control until 2024 for $18 million (9M AAV) and a 2025 club option at $5.3M.
  20. Yeah I don't trust them either and both of them likely will be expensive. I could see Bard once changing roles or coming to a different team not being as dominant as he was. Would prefer Robertson if I had a choice between the two, though not crazy about the both of them. They both could come in and be dumpster fires over the final two months.
  21. I was only joking, though yeah if the Jays added another starter, Kikuchi likely moves to the bullpen as a long reliever/mop up duty arm or an extra starter when needed.
  22. I agree, though there is still two months of the season to be played and injuries do happen. Having depth in the bullpen is important as well. A lot of posters now are forgetting the months of April and May when the Jays were losing guys to the IL and had no depth behind him. Everyone on here was complaining they wanted a stronger bench and better arms etc. Funny how things change since the Jays just swept the Red Sox and the entire lineup is healthy now, most posters think everything is perfect and the 25-man roster will be healthy all the way through October. Doesn't work that way. All I said was Jason Grilli is an example of a BP arm who struggled before the Jays acquired him and he turned out to be the most dominant Jays reliever down the stretch. I'm not saying Trevino will be that guy, could be someone else, though I have no problem adding Trevino or someone else with some upside as a 3rd bullpen piece if he's available for cheap.
  23. The Jays likely won't have a lockdown KC Royals 2015 pen. Trading for one right now as well would be extremely expensive. Even if the Jays added two of Bard, Barlow or Roberston, which is highly unlikely, they wouldn't even come close to having a bullpen like KC in 2015. The Jays need their starters to go at least 6 innings in the Postseason.
  24. I agree as well, though if the Blue Jays add two elite relievers already, I don't mind them rolling the dice on a guy as that third or fourth bullpen piece. Look in 2016 when the Blue Jays acquired Jason Grilli from Atlanta. His ERA was 5.29 and had a 1,71 WHIP. Once he was traded to Toronto, he was lights out and one of the Jays most dominant relievers (58K's in 42 innings with a 1.12 WHIP). I don't mind the Jays targeting a guy who is struggling currently with previous success and high K rates. Sometimes all they need is a change of scenery.
  25. Mark Melancon comes to mind as well haha. Though I hope not!
