    Matt Chapman is a really solid 3B. A lot of his value is driven from his glove, which knocks him up a couple of tiers likely around the Top 10 when it comes to third baseman. Otherwise with the bat, he's nothing special. He should ideally be hitting in the bottom third of the order. No higher than 6th in a lineup. When he was brought here to Toronto, he was treated as a cleanup hitter/No. 5 hitter, which he clearly was not.

    What's the point of having this high special "high performance department" when players aren't taking full advantage of of it and using it? Everyone on here making it seem like the Jays are the only team with a "high performance department" and "pitching lab" lol. Every other team has something similar.

    There is luck involved in a short 3 game series, but the Jays regardless played poorly in both WC matchups and their struggles from the 162 game season carried into both of their series. 2021: didn't even make the Postseason which is a shame. Really would have loved to see what that lineup and pitching at the time could have done in the Postseason. Not addressing the Bullpen early on in the season was the issue. 2022: no excuses to blow that lead with Gausman on the mound. Series could have been tied 1-1 and who knows what happens in Game 3. If they lost a close Game 3, then sure luck played a role. The bullpen, defense and over management played more of a role in that series with the Mariners than luck. 2023: offensive struggles all year carried over into the Wildcard matchup. If the Jays bats all of a sudden woke up, that would be getting lucky. Otherwise, this team had offensive issues all year long and it carried over into their series with the Twins. The FO failed to upgrade the lineup at the deadline when it was well known it was a huge issue.

    How much do you think Chapman gets as a FA now that Candelario is off the market?

    He's already posted a 4 WAR season and 5.5 WAR season in his career. He's still only 28 as well. What other 3B do you have in mind? If the Jays can't bring back Chapman, they need a third baseman. Suarez already traded, and Candelario signed with the Red. Not many options available. I would definitely roll the dice on Moncada as a bounce back candidate if the White Sox eat some of his salary and doesn't cost much in a trade.

    India's name was thrown around earlier as a potential swap for Alex Manoah. Also, suggested him yesterday as a possible target in one of the other threads.

    Yeah I understand Manoah + was being dangled in a deal for Soto, but given the circumstances where the Padres are looking to dump Soto and his $33M salary, and with only one-year left. After Soto is traded to the Yankees, which other 4-5 WAR player could Manoah be dangled for? I agree the Jays could use their excess pitching to upgrade the offense, but I don't see how arms like Kikuchi, Bassitt or Manoah bring in a significant upgrade to the offense. The only arms I see who could bring in a significant upgrade are Gausman and Berrios and perhaps a package built around Tiedemann. Otherwise, Kikuchi, Bassitt and Manoah don't really bring in anyone better than who is currently available as a FA (e.g. Teo Hernandez, Jorge Soler, etc.).

    How many years and how much would you give Bregman? Will be 31.

    Don't really see anyone other than Soto getting $250M or more. Alex Bregman might have been a candidate but don't think he signs a 10-year deal anywhere since he'll be 31 in 2025 and his offensive numbers have been trending in the wrong direction over the past 3 seasons. It's a weak FA class for bats. Alonso won't get that much unless he blasts 60-70 HR's in 2024 lol.

    You just said if the Jays signed Yama, they could trade one of their back-end rotation starters for a solid bat. So you think Manoah, Kikuchi or Bassitt can bring in a 4-5 WAR bat? I think Gausman and maybe Berrios could, but then you're talking about trading your No. 1 or 2 starter. Those guys aren't in the lower part of the rotation.

    Which lower part of the rotation do you think gets a solid bat? Manoah's value is at its lowest. He was only discussed in the Soto talks because Soto had 1 year remaining and Padres were looking to dump salary. Maybe a team like Cincy who could trade Jonathan India might be a fit, but otherwise Manoah alone ain't bringing in a 4-5 WAR player. Kikuchi has one year left, and his spotty track record previously likely limits his value. Might be able to get a similar aged 2-3 WAR bat for him with one year of control but nothing special. A lot of FA bats fit that description. Bassitt has two years/$40M left and will be 35. Not sure you can find a trading partner in the offseason unless that team is in desperate need of pitching and has a similar aged bat. Really only Gausman and Berrios hold any significant trade value in the offseason where you can trade them for a 4-5 WAR player.

    No trouble at all. Actually quite easy. Just rinse after done right away using in warm water. Dry it with paper towel. Dip an end of the paper towel after with olive oil to wipe the skillet and let it dry naturally. I find cast iron skillets easier to clean than actual non-stick pans.

    Japanese ballplayers do like playing in domes. There are a few outdoor ballparks like where the Hanshin Tigers and Hiroshima Carp play and I'm sure a bit more, but yeah the Ham Fighters played in a dome in Sapporo. I know weather was brought up before. Sapporo is situated in Hokkaido which is the northern province in Japan and they have longer winters than some places in mainland Japan. Pretty much similar to here in Canada.

    Warm water to rinse first and dry. Then get a paper towel dipped with some olive oil to wipe it. Can also pour some olive oil in the skillet and heat it again for a bit. Never use soap or dish detergent for it.

    The shills on this board will always think Atkins is the best no matter what. In reality, he's been solid but definitely can improve in some areas. He isn't one of the best GM's in baseball. He's done a solid job here, but it hasn't been enough and we're already going into 2024 with zero Postseason wins with this group and an aging team that beyond 2025 looks very questionable without a pipeline of young elite players ready to step in. Sure an 88-90 win team is nice, but geez it's the expanded era so definitely easier to make the Postseason every year. The issue with Atkins is he hasn't been able to take this team to the next level.
