  1. The best baseball tournaments are really the Little League World Series, The College World Series and the World Junior Championships. Really, with baseball, a double round robin followed by a playoff at least gives a sample size and doesn't allow one pitcher to steal it all.
  2. Olympic baseball was a lousy formatted tournament too. Heck, the Olympic hockey tourney isn't very good either. More games!
  3. Personally I can't stand the WBC. The best players don't go. The US team is a joke each time and they simply don't play enough games. Give me a WBC where 3 teams qualify and along with the US (host and country with the most MLB players), play a 4-team tourney during a 7-day all-star break. Every 4 years skip the all-star game and add 4 days to the break.
  4. With the exception of Africa it is played in many countries, in every other continent around the world. It would be a good addition.
  5. Baseball, squash, rugby, cricket, karate, wushu and golf should all be in the Olympics. Heck, mixed martial arts, bowling and roller sports might be good additions too. Rugby and golf are being added. By merging judo and taekwondo into a catagory called martial arts, they create an opening and can add MMA, wushu and karate under the heading by calling them 'Disciplines'. Lose sailing, synchronized swimming and the equestrian events and you now have everything aside say bowling and climbing. By calling some sports 'disciplines' the Olympics would gain golf, rugby (already added), baseball, softball, roller sports, squash, cricket, karate, wushu, MMA and only lose sailing, equestrian and synchcronized swinming
  6. But yes, Chad Owens and Ricky Ray are good football players and are fun to watch. The league needs more of them.
  7. I used to enjoy the CFL. Here's why I don't now: - The CFL was a quarterback's league, loaded with talented supposedly too short for the NFL former college stars and black QBs who couldn't get a shot. It's not the case anymore. 25 years ago Russel Wilson, RG3, Michael Vick and Drew Brees would have been in the CFL. In order, Tom Clements, Condrege Holloway, Warren Moon and Dieter Brock were those guys. - Undersized linebackers land in NFL Tampa-2 systems, when they used to come to Canada. - D-ends with speed who don't crack the NFL go to arena leagues for the money. - The CFL could compete with the NFL for contracts. NFL free agency ended that. Simply put, the game is played by subpar football players and it shows. There are so many bad routes by receivers and so many DBs that bite on pump fakes and just bad play at the linebacker positions. Sure, thère's some elite talent but those players generally head south unless they are really suited to the Canadian game. I just wish that there were more of them and that they weren't on NFL practice squads or playing special teams in the NFL. And while I'm at it, good God can we please lose forward motion before the snap outside the tackle box? The Canadian rules never intended for wide receivers to be running toward the line and taking away the bump and run coverages from corners. The rule was for RBs to have a better shot at hitting holes quickly so there could be a running game in 3-down football. And if you watch replays, guess what? The offence is offsides more than 70% of the time. Receivers do not time the snap and are running. CFL officials let it go because if close enough wasnt good enough, there'd be a flag on almost every play. It's silly!
  8. Simply because neither Toronto FC or Soccer Canada wants any part of adding 25 yards of length to the stadium.
  9. In spite if winning the 2012 Gold Glove, he ranked out of the top 60 catchers defensively. He is lazy behind the plate and often slaps at balls and shows weak efforts to block. Here's the thing- he's moody and crusty. If its a big game or a close game, you see his solid A effort. If he's just not in the mood to try, it sure shows.
  10. -Non tender Arencibia -Keep Thole -Sign Ruiz
  11. He was injured all year. Don't think that you'll be complaining next year when he hits .310 or better and can actually run.
  12. Still like the idea if signing Lind, trading him and signing Beltran. I get that he didn't come last time around but this club has several of his best friends on it, is closer to winning (in spite of this season's results), and at his age he is less opposed to DHing some.
  13. No matter who they want playing 1b or DH next year, Lind's option gets picked up. He has trade value.
  14. http://o.canada.com/2013/08/30/police-officer-creates-amazing-arrest-report-after-fan-jumps-on-field-during-jays-game/
  15. That really isn't a ton of changes. Minor league deals are given out by everyone each year. Replacing Lind with Beltran and getting a return makes so much sense. Carlos is a Bonifide 2-5 bat and a switch hitter. Surround Jose and EE with switch hitters and you get something like this... 1. Reyes 2. Beltran 3. Bautista 4. Encarnacion 5. Cabrera 6. Lawrie 7. Rasmus 8. Ruiz 9. Izturis/Schumaker
  16. Also allows them to sit Sanchez, play Jones in RF and Morneau at first.
  17. Werth is having a heck of a season but clearly McCutchen, after Trout, is the best in the world and he's going to get better.
  18. I'm not sure that was trolling. I'd put the odds on Davis returning at 10-1 against. There really isn't much of a CF free agent crop and while I think that Rajai is a bag of balls in centre, there will be suitors for him at the position. The market is going to get him over-paid too. And while it might not happen, his getting a whopping 3-year/$18 million isn't that unrealistic. And he's 32 now!
  19. Bonifacio can't play the infield, makes poor reads in the outfield, can't throw at all accurately and while blazing fast, gets poor jumps on pitchers. KC is welcome to him.
  20. I think they would. The kid is very blocked and options don't grow on trees. Drabek is still a good young talent and is bouncing back better than anyone would expect off a 2nd TJ surgery. There has been trade talk around him and a starter is apparently what they're hoping for. Seems like a good fit. People don't often trade SPs for unproven young position players. Arencibia was just a throw in. He's cheap and balls (that he doesn't miss) would jump off his bat in the Arizona air.
  21. I think that you'll find that Garza gets at least $15 million/ year.
  22. Didnt realize his career BA was .000 v them.
  23. I'm sorry but Lind just needs to get his head out of his ass and just hit. He can do it. Maybe he'll never do so but this is stupid-- he can and has hit lefties. Perhaps he's just too stupid to realize it. I've seen hitters who bail out on lefty breaking balls or who have their head fly off. Lind does neither. This is about mental approach and the poor baby's comfort level. About time for him to get aggressive when a lefty shows up because they just come in and he's behind 1-2 after 3 pitches with regularity and it's every year.
  24. Frankly I'm using the numbers to support what is fairly obvious just from watching him. He's always had poor timing and takes too many strikes in his first plate appearance v a lefty. Look what happens to hitters across baseball when they are behind in the count. Would you rather that I just said that Lind looks lost until he's seen 5+ pitches from the left side? Never known you to appreciate observational scouting.
  25. Thanks and of course I meant 5-man infield + pitcher for 6.
