  1. Yes, a thread where a merely quoted the Chicago Sun Times. They saw Peavy as a salary dump with little trade value. They figured the same on Garza. Both Chicago pitchers. God forgive me for assuming the Chicago media had a better take than a few posters on this forum. The posters did have far more insight but let's be honest here, that's not typically the case.
  2. A little more research-- the Indians qualified him, though valuing him as a $10mm pitcher for 2014. They may have (unconfirmed) offered him 4 years at just over 50 million during the free agency period. It just doesn't seem like anyone other than Cleveland, Toronto and perhaps Seattle, the Cubs or Rockies would have interest. Now that's assuming that Cleveland were right in that they qualified a player who's 2014 value is really around 10 million.
  3. Pretty much the issue. The market will put him right around those dollar numbers. He does come with questions and costs a pick. I don't see people lining up.
  4. He had a strong second half and a very good 2012. He keeps the ball down. I think that you're exaggerating a bit. Now sure I'd prefer Garza but he's going to get much more and have many suitors. Some figure that he signs with Arizona within a month anyway.
  5. Unlike Garza, he received a qualifying offer. Toronto has 2 protected 1st round picks. Media in Cleveland keep speculating that he could be unsigned come Spring Training and return to Cleveland. There has been no buzz around him, no rumors, nothing and AA works quietly. Toronto needs a starter and Jimenez is the best one that few will want. Its a match.
  6. Nothing will likely be going on until after Tanaka signs. It seems that Garza, Santana, and Jimenez are all waiting until the market is set by him. There's a few indicators (logic mostly) that suggest Toronto will try hard to sign Jimenez and will probably get him but he's not signing anywhere yet.
  7. I tried to at least make it funny. Maybe AA can do that by also signing Scott Sizemore.
  8. Ozzie Guillen's inclusion made me cough laugh up my beverage.
  9. Should have picked this guy up instead. He flies around the bases. http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/rudolph.html
  10. Just to add... former Olympian and former Baseball America Top 50 prospect. Only 27 and non tendered only because injury limited him to just 3 games last year, while Yan Gomes filled in very well. He's also shown that he can crush left handed pitchers. The Tribe will apparently try to keep him on a minor league deal. They only have so much 40-man space and Gomes earned his job last year. His best opportunities honestly lie outside of Cleveland.
  11. I figure the odds of AA signing him would be around 90%. Elite defensive catcher with a good swing and bat speed that has yet to translate at the MLB level. Some injury issues for the former Phillies top 10 prospect who was recently with Cleveland. A real buy low with upside after being non tendered. A MLB deal would lock him up on the cheap, though he might take a minor league deal knowing that worst case he's #3 behind Thole if he lost out in Spring Training.
  12. Dickey was pretty solid on the road last year and his second half home numbers were pretty good. Don't be shocked if he is a top 5 statistical starter in the AL next year. The guy is a smart student of the game and a gritty gamer.
  13. I have been super busy and also needed a baseball break after that awful season. I like Jeff Samardzija a lot. I see him as primed to make a big jump to the next level, if not beyond. Get him out of Wrigley, put a pen behind him, toss in the one more year of maturation he just experienced and watch out.
  14. Lots of talk out of Minnesota about them signing Garza long term. Garza apparently liked the organization and the city when he was there previously. Garza + Nolasco would make them much better and perhaps better enough to not be so far away from contending. One might even call this signing a message to Garza, stating that they are serious about winning.
  15. Emerging front end starter. His value is well known and I'm only taking time to post here because I think that Toronto actually lands him. Cost? Some recent deals have shocked me but I'd guess Stroman, Drabek, a good low level prospect and Sierra. I'll go further and say that if a deal gets done, AA pulls out of all talks with the big money SP free agents and inks Scott Kazmir to a 2-year deal for around $17.5 million.
  16. The Dodgers haven't won since 1988 and the Tigers since 1984 and they've never faced each other for the series. It would be a good match up.
  17. Or steal Rich Gedman now and before he lands a MLB gig, likely in Boston. He is a Walt Hriniak disciple and is considered to be a rising star in the coaching world.
  18. Throw some money at Rick Down and land the best active Charlie Lau theorist coach on the planet. Proven track record and respected. I believe that he's with the Yankees as their minor league hitting director or whatever title they gave him to travel around and teach their affliliate's hitting coaches.
  19. I do believe that Oakland were favored to win btw. I never expect the A's to pull off a championship with their formula though. Big sample size winning with everyone on the roster playing a part v star power in a short series, when teams with stars use few pitchers and use little of the bench, generally allows for stars to shine.
  20. My favorite team is whomever is playing Boston. I have lots to cheer for.
  21. Perhaps but he was the hitting coach for Puerto Rico at the WBC and is looking to coach.
  22. Carlos Delgado rumors are already being floated...
  23. Gibby probably wants his guy. If it is Lee Mazzilli I will fall over laughing.
  24. Beltran has already been linked to Toronto. He has friends on the club. I wouldn't put too much into his not coming here his last free agency go around.
  25. Sveum will work again and quickly.
