    1) It's a theoretical question. Play along and stop being pedantic. 2) If it becomes clear that we're going to get the WC and not the division title, you bet managers can hold pitchers back to pitch in the WC. We're not just going to run guys out there as per usual, and then say: "Oh, it's Liriano's turn in the rotation. Darn!"

    Votto continues to routinely put up +.400 OBP Votto is 33, but shows no sign of aging. We are going to need a 1B, as Encarnacion is likely leaving us, and Smoak, well...you know. Votto averages about 5 WAR per season, which makes a $25 million salary acceptable - over the next four years. Not sure I want to pay that for his age 37-40 seasons. We only have Sanchez for four more years, and his salary is going to go up a lot, after he hits arbitration. And pitchers are a lot more fragile. I'd probably do the deal if the Reds kicked in $40 million to offset his end-of-contract decline. Or if they kicked in prospects worth about the same.

    Even with A-Rod and Tex coming off the books, they still have $21 million to Ellsbury for the next 4 years, followed by a $5 million buyout. All those long-term mega deals are really biting them in the ass now. In 2017, the Yankees will be speding roughly 84 million for the following: CC Sabathia ($25M) A-Rod ($21M) Ellsbury ($21M) McCann ($17M)

    Speaking from experience, I can pretty much guarantee that Choo didn't do much to get them into first place.

    It's a good topic. I've noticed it too. Jays are incredibly lucky to have the offense that we have given how bad our drafting/development of hitters has been. The reason it's important, is, if we are really bad at it, then, we need to either: 1) Re-evaluate our drafting process. I know at one point, under AA, we were all about the athletic players. Then Gose taught us that having the hit tool is kinda important. 2) Re-evaluate our development process. We seem to have ruined some decent hitting prospects (Lawrie, Hinske, Snider). 3) Forget about developing hitters. We kick ass at developing pitchers. Focus on that, and then trade for the hitters that we need.

    Yes. I like my offense going forward, but it's going to be a struggle to pick up some quality arms, unless my rookies break out next season. It was Sale for Reed, Berrios and a draft pick, which ended up netting me two other top 100 picks. But I've already shipped Reed off, for Osuna+.

    I can't believe how quickly some of these guys have moved from being drafted to being productive in MLB.

    Just remember that, when we don't sign Bautista and Encarnacion next year, because we're obligated to spend $17 million on a negative WAR pitcher.

    People need to factor in the financials before declaring this a win. So, $2.3 million + 1.3 years of Liriano + Harold Ramirez + PTBNL for $17 million + 2.3 years of Hutchison If you declare Hutchison and Liriano a tie, then we're essentially paying $15 million for those two prospects. So, Liriano (-0.4 WAR this year) better turn things around and be a hell of a lot better than Hutchison. Don't really like it, unless Pitt is eating some of that cash.

    Bolsinger actually seems like a pretty decent return, given that we only had a couple months left of Chavez.

    No way this happens. - The Jays and Nationals are both in the playoff hunt. No reason Bautista isn't just as valuable to us right now. - Jays get a comp pick if he leaves at end of the year. Nationals would not get that. - Did you see what Bautista did for this city in 2015 in the playoffs?

    Yeah, so glad I invested heavily in bats like Pollock, JD Martinez, Choo and Matt Carpenter, instead of those fragile pitchers.

    The only thing the team really needs is a couple decent relief pitchers, and a starter to replace Sanchez. Trading for Upton, given his salary, and given that we have a decent outfield of Bautista/Saunders/Pillar makes no sense.

    I think for Game 1 of the World Series, (at home) they should only allow people in if they come with goats.

    What does a Thank You after a draft pick even mean. Does it mean, Thank you for recognizing how good that player is, or does it mean thank you for taking someone totally useless, and not taking a decent player?
