That would be pretty awesome if we could get Keirmaier, and put him and Pillar out in the OF by themselves. Then maybe we add another infielder between 2nd and short. Probably wouldn't work, but it would be fun to watch.

Last year, the Jays grabbed the second wildcard, with a record of 89-73. The closest teams to eliminating us from post-season contention were: Detroit 86-75 Yankees 84-78 Seattle 86-76 Houston 84-78 It's also important to note that we tied with Baltimore with the same record. So, where does that leave us for 2017? The Yankees have probably stayed the same. They've lost their big bats (A-Rod, Tex). Their bullpen is actually worse than last year, as they've lost Miller. (They had Chapman to start the season last year too). And they're relying on three rookies (Sanchez, Bird, Judge). The Tigers have pretty much announced a fire sale, and seem unlikely to compete for the next couple centuries, with the state of their economy. Seattle added Segura, and didn't make any other major moves, but have some older players they rely on. (Kuma, Cruz, Cano). The Astros are going to be absolute beasts. Bregman, Gurriel, Giles and Beltran are going to make a big difference over last year. The Orioles haven't done anything significant and might still lose Trumbo. So, assuming that Boston, Cleveland and Texas win their divisions, we can only let one of these teams (Houston) finish ahead of us and still make the playoffs. So, let's compare this year to last year. Disclaimer, I am just pulling these numbers out of my ass, so feel free to argue/disagree. This is basically your logic taken to the next level: Similarly, you can't say Tommy Milone is a bad pitcher, you can just say he was used improperly. If you say he should be taken out after 40 pitches, that's a fair argument. But if you say he sucks, you don't have an argument.

Well, he didn't fight with any of the players this year. So, I guess that's good. I thought his management of Price in last year's post-season was atrocious. This year was better, although I think we really wasted Liriano, who was our hottest pitcher in September. Bullpen management was pretty bad too, as I recall, although I don't remember the specifics. But mostly, Gibbons has never done a single unconventional thing to make me think: wow, this guy is really smart. He mainly plays by the book, and most of the credit that we give him is for inactivity.

Agree with most of what you said. Except, I think he will pitch for us at some point. Probably around 30-50 innings.

This is the reason you don't like Pearce? From the baseball experts that I've consulted with, many of them feel that being less injury prone is a positive.

It's only half a season, but: .282/.348/.467 with 29 HR in his first year and a half, looks pretty good. I don't think there's any question that he's worth a lot more than Melancon. Frankly, there's a reasonable chance he ends up worth more than Benintendi.

OK, the Padres let him go because he was expected to get over $10 million in arbitration, which makes him a free agent. And he would be a perfect fit for the RC, because he has an awesome GB rate, just like Stroman. Obviously, thoracic outlet syndrome is a big deal, but it would be worth risking some money to see what he's got. And we have the luxury of being able to move Liriano to the bullpen if we need to, so we can guarantee Ross a rotation spot on a contending team, if he's healthy.

I understand that the occasional person might mistake a poster's style for trolling, which happens, and is fine. The problem is the pack mentality where everyone feels a need to gang up on the poster with dissenting ideas. And personally, as someone who was formerly voted best troll, who cares if someone is trolling, as long as they're not getting vicious and not overly spamming, let them post their ideas. People can argue with them respectfully or ignore them. Trolling gets a bad rap. Sometimes it means someone vicious, sometimes it means someone posting dissenting ideas, but originally it just meant someone expressing ideas that they don't really believe to get a rise out of people. That can be some very fun s***. One time, these girls were starting an anti-racism club, (which involved getting drunk at the bar for the cause of anti-racism), and I proposed that we don't let any Asians into the anti-racism club, because they didn't care about racism, and would just try to get free drinks, and they took me seriously, and debated the pros and cons of it. Trolling can be a lot of fun if done right. Hard to find the time anymore.
