  1. Totally with you. I can't believe that Lindor is friends with him. Lindor seems like such a nice, young man. There was a game earlier where Baez struck out, and the ball bounced away but Baez was too cool to try to reach base on the strikeout. Reminds me a lot of Goins.
  2. Yes. Fantasy baseball is just for losers with no life. Pretty much the rallying cry of everyone who finished on the bottom of every fantasy league since statistics were invented.
  3. Might be worth double checking to make sure that everyone wants to hang on to their team. If there are some people on the fence, it might be worth encouraging them to leave now, and then doing a mini-draft to rotate the players between two or three teams. Makes it more balanced and helps make the team feel like their own. Not sure where Chappy is at, and I think there might have been one other thinking of exiting.
  4. They also get the first overall pick in the upcoming draft.
  5. Yup. I generally cheer for Game 7's. And I'm hoping it's very close in the late innings, so that every managerial move gets overly scrutinized. I love the intense pressure, and the little things that could sway a World Series in one direction or the other. Might even see someone run out a routine ground ball.
  6. Depends on the replacement level players. If you're satisfied with Casey Kotchman at 1st and Junior Lake in OF, then no need for those guys.
  7. The pattern seems to be that Shapiro likes contingency plans. Jesse Chavez was the contingency plan in case we couldn't find enough starters or one of our guys imploded/got injured through the season. Justin Smaok is the contingency plan in case we lose Edwin and Saunders. Upton is the contingency plan in case we lose Jose and Saunders. It's like paying for insurance. If you don't have a fire, it's wasted money, but if you have a fire, you're gonna be awfully glad.
  8. Yeah, I'm mostly good with Shapiro. The exceptions are: Trading Hendriks for Jesse Chavez. Re-signing Justin Smoak Not sure about the Upton trade. I know we got him cheap, but I've just always thought he has about the worst attitude in the game.
  9. Cubs fans are lunatics. They've slaughtered a few goats over the years and left their heads lying around in order to get around the goat curse too.
  10. Generally, with curses, if you bother to work through the numerology, you can calculate the length of time it will remain in effect after the curse bestower's death. It depends somewhat on his primal ordinates, but otherwise, it's very unlikely that the curse is still in effect. Based on his full name, birth date, and city of birth, I calculate only a 3.2% chance that the curse is still in effect.
  11. I knew I should have posted 'Go Jays Go' in the GDT thread a lot more.
  12. This conversation surprises me. Several years ago, there was a debate about a young reliever turned starter by the name of Brandon Morrow. Everyone agreed immediately that turning him into a starter was the right move, because a starter gets more WAR than a reliever. There was near-unanimous agreement, and that was the end of the conversation. Looks like the forum has evolved.
  13. Teams are definitely taking framing into account, when giving out contracts. But I think game calling has a bigger impact than pitch framing personally. Knowing what a pitcher can throw on any given day, as well as what the hitters are good at hitting, and having an idea what they're looking for based on small clues in the batter's box has a much bigger impact than people realize. There's no way Happ, Estrada and Liriano had the seasons they did without Martin.
  14. Martin is worth the money for his pitch-framing and game-calling alone.
  15. If you're planning on doing something violent to Tomlin that we don't know about, make sure you come back to the forum and delete these posts.
  16. You have a pretty loose definition of what constitutes a 'discussion'.
  17. If we don't have any relief pitchers (other than Osuna) who can protect a 4-run lead in the 9th, we aren't going to get very far. Using Osuna in that situation and in the 4-2 loss was egregious. If we bring in Osuna to close a tight game today, and he blows it, Gibbons should and will be fired. Still, none of this comes close to how he mismanaged David Price last year. That was just embarrassing. Price is too much of a professional to say it publicly, but I'm sure Price told them he would never come back to Toronto after that.
  18. If we can get past Kluber on short rest, the rest of the Indians rotation isn't that great. Whereas, all of our starters are solid. Then the biggest hurdle will be Kluber again on Game 7 - but on short rest again - for the second time in a row. Stupid move by Francona to have Kluber pitch today. Should have let him pitch tomorrow on full rest.
  19. Yeah, it's amazing that Maddon brought the Cubs into the post-season with that team full of hacks, losers and has-beens filling up the roster.
  20. Rather than do something along the lines of 4 years for $85 million. I'd rather the Jays did 7 years and $110 million. Sure, we probably won't get a ton of value out of those last 3 years, but at $8 million a season, it's worth the risk. And it ensures that Edwin finishes his career as a Blue Jay. It would be nice to have a little stability here.
  21. I think I was on vacation at the time, and it didn't seem all that important. It's not like it was a major trade.
  22. Well, You can't really trade a player for nothing. Anyways, looks like FS changed his mind about the trade, and is using a loophole. That's fine.
  23. Physical violence is OK, when someone tries to injure you with a dirty slide. Come on, we all know that if some douche did a slide like that in an attempt to take out Tulo or Travis, we'd all hate that player. Just blatant homerism. And we'd love it if Tulo/Travis, turned around and punched that player in the head.
  24. Am I the only one who thought Bautista deserved to get punched in the head by Odor?
