    Kyle Seager has never even been to the post-season. I say the Jays throw $8 million at him for one season, with the allure of making it to the post-season for the first time in his career. I think he can be convinced.

    They have overdone the compensation for teams with low payrolls, and s***** Miami has taken full advantage of it, which is why there's such a problem. We can't have a system where some teams make more money by remaining uncompetitive with half-empty stadiums than by trying to compete.

    Not really. Some of these teams that are forced to spend $60-$100 million in seasons where they have no chance of competing are just going to end up folding. If your in the middle of a deep rebuild, and the only thing you can do is pay a bunch of money for old free agents that are gonna move the needle from a .450 team to a .460 team, it isn't going to help draw the fans in. Maybe if it happens, teams can get a bit creative in spending their salary minimum in taking on bad contracts, and prospects at the same time, but a salary minimum isn't going to make 30 teams magically competitive. It's going to bankrupt a bunch of teams, while not giving them the flexibility to do a proper rebuild.

    Votto looks like it will likely work out. Jeter's 10 year deal worked out for the Yankees. Dave Winfield's contract worked out. There haven't really been that many 10-year deals, and most of them are just getting started.

    Jays management is just playing games to try and get Boston and NYY to waste more money on this guy. That being said, his Japanese numbers look good. I don't think an .850 OPS would be unexpected. Getting the guy for 5 years/55 as projected, seems like a steal.

    Honestly, we don't need him. He's fine all, but happy with our trio of Springer, Gourriel, and Teoscar. And we have a bunch of guys who can rotate through DH already. Seems expensive for a 4th OF. Would rather we focused on 2B, 3B, another SP and a reliever or two.
