  1. Same. I love Bauer. But I actually think 4 years for $120 million is fine, especially if he's planning on pitching every 4th day. Could see a lower AAV, with a significant bonus structure, if he actually pitches as many innings as he's planning.
  2. That's surprising. With all the bitching they do about the umpires, you would think they would be delighted to have automated strike zones.
  3. I don't like this one bit. 1/6th of our payroll going to a single player for the next six years (will be 37). Outfield wasn't really our position of greatest weakness (we already have Lourdes, Teoscar, and Grichuk) We still don't have a 3B. Our rotation is still kind of awful. And we don't appear to have gotten any kind of COVID discount. It's possible that there's not going to be any fans in the seats this year. While many of you don't care, this means that there will be even less money to spend going forward. Would have preferred we got Bauer.
  4. Remember when Toronto rolled out the red carpet for Kawhi with all those Kawhi eats for free signs. I think we could do something similar for Harden. Like Harden gets lap dances for free. I'm just not sure if there's a single word verb for receiving a lap dance, so it's not as catchy. I've tried ejaculate, but it's a little presumptive. Harden ejaculates for free? I dunno. Still a work in progress, but I think it could really make the difference.
  5. 120 million seems pretty outrageous for 2021 given that they'll likely have no home fans for a good chunk of the season. Going forward, assuming things return to normal for 2022, it seems reasonable. Expect lower payrolls all around for this season.
  6. Huge overpay. Thames never had an OPS less than 1.100 in the KBO, and while he was decent in MLB, he wasn't amazing. Paying $8 million a season for a guy with an OPS under .900 in the KBO doesn't seem smart.
  7. We're not getting DJL. The Jays refusal to denounce rumors means that agents always add the Jays as a potential buyer to drive up the prices from other teams. They don't need any infielders. They can use a big-bat outfielder (Spring), SP and RP. Infield is pretty much their biggest area of strength. Does DJL make us better? Sure. But assuming we have a fixed amount of $ to spend, I'm confident we could add more wins spending it on pitching.
  8. Jury is still out on that. I hear Spics is the frontrunner for the new name.
  9. Vlad looked fast going to 1st base. I bet his 60 time is way better. He looks almost athletic out there.
  10. Sure, I'd love to have a superstar at every position, but we have a lot of holes to fill, and limited budget. SS is not an area of weakness. Starting pitching is a shambles, and in my opinion, Bichette produces less value to us by shifting to 2B or 3B. And I hate the idea of putting almost a third of our annual salary on a single player. And if he pulls a Vernon Wells or a Tulo, we're totally f***ed. Even if he plays well, we're really limiting our options. We could get three decent players for the price of one of Lindor.
  11. I don't understand why we're all hot and heavy over Lindor. He's a great player, but we don't need him. 1) We have a great shortstop already, who seems to have decent defense at shortstop, based on defensive ratings. 2) Offense is not our problem. Pitching is our problem. If we're going to be trading players away, let's address that. 3) Lindor is going to be bloody expensive. And revenues could be light until COVID clears up. Really going to tie our hands. 4) There's a decent amount of solid 3B that we could bring in to boost offense a lot cheaper. (Maikel).
  12. What does everyone think about the lawsuit that MLB is filing against the insurance companies? They're claiming that the virus causes physical damage to the property. Sounds bogus to me.
  13. Not really following why Rogers wants to do this. They don't own the land, so I don't think they get any of the money from the condos. Why are they even involved in deciding what to do with the land underneath. If the RC isn't there, shouldn't the company who actually owns the land decide what happens? Or is Rogers basically saying they'll give it back to them, if they share the profit. So they got a sweetheart deal and got the RC for nothing, and now are essentially selling the use of the land for a massive profit? Something doesn't add up. I guess it's possible that they just want a smaller stadium to provide a better vibe, and lower maintenance costs, but honestly, attendance has never really been a problem. And reducing it to a 25,000 capacity stadium seems really short-sighted.
  14. Actually, Asians make more than white people, so probably looking at about $0.90 on the dollar. Highest earning group out there. Outrage mobs haven't turned on them yet though.
  15. Really hope we don't trade for Lindor. 1) We already have a great shortstop. 2) We have many areas of greater need: mostly pitching. 3) I hate giving up a bunch of prospects for a 1-year deal. 4) We're not ready to compete yet. 5) Biden's tax plan is gonna make the Blue Jays a lot more competitive in attracting new players in the near future.
  16. Jays are scared to take Colorado hitting stars after Tulo.
  17. Hate to burst some bubbles, but I don't think the Jays are going to spend much. It will likely be a few fixer upper SP/RP projects, maybe a 3B, OF, and utility. Revenue will likely be way down and they won't want to take a big loss.
  18. I don't know about the rest of you, but I want to see the Dodgers win, mostly because of Kershaw. He's been easily the best pitcher of our generation, and it doesn't seem right that he doesn't have a World Series.
  19. Or gets into fist fights with them, depending on his mood.
  20. In theory, paying workers minimum wage seems like a no-brainer. But, you also have to factor in the signing bonuses a lot of these guys get. And, you have to realize, that this is a bit like going to school/doing an internship. The MLB teams generally lose money on these players already. The end result of this, is that the MLB is going to drop a lot of the fringe minor league players, possibly reducing the number of players by 50%. Then to accommodate all the guys that get cut, private companies will start up - possibly even charging players money to keep their skills up so they can compete in walk-ups.
  21. I love Machado whining about Graterol's antics. Like after Tatis' absurd display, SD has nothing to complain about.
  22. I prefer they just go with this year's standings. Using last year's means you're giving a team two first round picks for one s***** year. They already got rewarded last year. Wouldn't mind seeing a weighted lottery for the non-playoff teams though. But this year will suck for drafting anyways, as there's been so little baseball, the scouting reports are going to be a joke. There's so much movement between the beginning and end of the year on the draft boards, and this year, they'll largely be going off what they already knew from last year. It will be a real krapshoot. The difference between 1-1 and 1-30 has never been so small.
  23. A 2-year-deal isn't cool. You know what's cool? A billion-year-deall. OK, realistically. 2/20 guaranteed with 3 more option years at 12/14/15, each with 1 MM buyouts.
