    We're being allowed 14 pitchers in May. So 14 pitchers, 12 hitters with the cut down. Should be Heinman, Katoh going down.

    I have to admit, on the surface I don't like this decision. If he was pulled because he wasn't doing well, was hurting or something like that then fine. But pulling a guy because you can is a bad move.

    The definition of a save has not always been the same. As initially defined in 1969, a relief pitcher could earn a save if he entered a game with his team in the lead and he held the lead through the end of the game, regardless of the score or for how long he pitched.[22][24] This produced some especially "easy" saves, such as Ron Taylor being credited with a save after pitching a scoreless ninth inning in a 20–6 New York Mets win over the Atlanta Braves in August 1971.[24][25] In 1974, tougher criteria were adopted for saves where either the tying run had to be on base or at the plate when the reliever entered to qualify for a save, or the reliever had to preserve a lead of any size for at least three innings in completing a game.[26][27] The rule was slightly relaxed in 1975 to the current definition as outlined above.[28][27] Statistical sites, including MLB.com, include saves in pitching records prior to 1969 by retroactively applying the 1969 criteria.[22]

    Take a look at Mike Marshall of the Dodgers in 1974. 208 innings all out of the bullpen after a season of 179 innings. I remember Eichhorn's season, 157 innings pitched. It was higher leverage too. They used to have a different definition of a save back then too.

    Right now, the argument would be that it's a small sample size, but teams need to be tracked over an entire season. I bet certain teams, media favourites, would have a lot more umpire support. They can keep Pete Rose out of the HOF for betting, but this is worse. Scandalous even.

    Someone has to make this kind of story much bigger. It's the only way it will stop.

    I can think of some great pitchers who came up in our system that way. That's why I was surprised at the term that there is a change in philosophy. Some great long relievers/bulk relievers or whatever term have included Hentgen, Key and a few others.

    Don't know why they came up with the new term. Long reliever/swing man was a common title. Or Mop up reliever.

    I don't remember seeing the word bulk reliever. What's the definition of that?

    I saw the broken leg play. It showed character. When I took a blind friend to a baseball game when Buck was manager, my friend asked for a certain player during autographs. The player wasn't doing them. Buck personally went and got him. He said nothing, he just did it. That too showed character. Buck has my best thoughts!!

    Wow, I got the IPTV last night and watching the game on MLB TV for the first time. Huge difference!!

    Totally interested in this, a former neighbour had it and was just going to get it when he passed. How do you shop for this, what do you ask for, and so on? My cable system SUCKS and would be nice to get something better with real channels.

    Collins has an option year left. You're confusing him with Zimmer perhaps?

    I hear you, but he is on the 40 and has to be included on roster. His status is probably NOT YET REPORTED. You get a couple of days after being traded to report, and you shouldn't have to count against the 28 man roster until you report.

    Sort of does. He probably hasn't reported yet and not activated.

    I'd agree with that for the most part but amend to hope he loses a bunch of playoff games with Texas to the Toronto Blue Jays, WS Champs of 2022.
