  1. If Chapman could be who he used to be it would be a fine addition.
  2. i figured Fernandez was gone for Belt.
  3. A righty bat now for 4th OF and that's the offence complete.
  4. Yeah and if he makes the team, which he should, minimal wage.
  5. haven't seen his splits, but he seems like the type that would be a good 26th man. Update: batted about .264 vs southpaws, .220 vs righties. Seems to be adequate. Minimal wage.
  6. some good spring invitations. Expect an infielder and an outfielder next.
  7. The only thing to do at AAA would be stay healthy and stay ready in case of an injury. Rotting on a bench can't be good for a rook. This would have been the one year that an outfielder Rule 5 selection may have been useful.
  8. It's why I'd only play Springer or KK about 7 or so innings each. Take the injury risk out.
  9. Can only carry 13 pitchers so 13 position players.
  10. With the 2b candidates gaining at bats in the outfield then what other purpose do you see for the 26th man? It's either pinch running or catching.... and we don't need a 3rd catcher other than Varsho.
  11. that's how I saw it. It's when he got too many at-bats that his value went down. I would give him 50-100 at bats, almost all as blow outs and lots of appearances after the 7th inning. Lukes and Lopez would rot in this role.
  12. God no, I think Zimmer's bat is no more than that of a pitcher. But my hope is that the 5th outfielder is nothing but a defensive substitute/pinch runner and gets virtually NO at bats. Lopez and Lukes should be at AAA getting some at bats in case of injuries. If anything I'd have the outfield depth being: Springer KK Varsho Whitfield 4th outfielder and the last spot: pinch runner, defensive replacement. Zimmer would be good enough for that. Lukes and Lopez might be wasted.
  13. Lukes is a small possibility but that's about it.
  14. chances are whoever will be the 5th outfielder is not yet on the 40 so whoever it is will have to be added in.
  15. I know this sounds funny, but for last year's team, I hated how we had Zimmer. Now he might be what we need as a 5th outfielder-pinch runner-defensive sub. I know it sounds funny to say it but last year I would have thought the idea was insane.
  16. This is true, I know I had faith in JP at the time and that his comments on Adams were realistic. No scout should have listed him as a shortstop. He was probably a reasonable utility infielder, nothing more. I honestly feel JP's crew was full of shi$ at the time.
  17. I had such high expectations for JP as a Billy Beane protege. And then he drafted Russ Adams.
  18. Anyone with options doesn't have to approve.
  19. Spent 2022 on the Buffalo DL and reactivated in November.
  20. Starters Manoah Gausman Berrios Bassitt Kikuchi Relievers Romano Mayza Swanson Cimber Bass Garcia Richards Merryweather Catchers Jansen Kirk Infield Guerrero Biggio Bichette Chapman Merrifield Espinal Outfield Kiermeier Varsho Springer PICKUP PICKUP
  21. already on the new years eve drinkup?
  22. this is the definition of the type of player we need to sign to a spring invite. Hopefully he finds his way.
  23. a backup catcher needs to play about 60 games or so. I don't imagine Varsho getting more than 3 games behind the plate. Maybe we should have a bet here.
  24. Exactly, somebody for Buffalo and DL call ups. Nothing more.
