So would you play McNeil at 3b and Biggio at 2b with Espinal as sub? Personally I was hoping for at least one BAT for the infield, not just a bat. But if Morena is going to play 3b then it might make sense.
That's cool if he's a full time 2b and sometime cf. Basically he occasionally replaces Springer in late innings and the backup infielder Espinal comes in. Still leaves us weak at 3b and a very right handed lineup. I imagine there's a lot of balls in the air and this is one of them.
How many games are we seeing Marte for 2b/cf/lf? I think it'll be a bit of an overpay to get him for cf/lf. And if it is for 2b, is he still a 2b? He's mostly been an of.
I can understand that. It would have been nice if they gave him some innings during blow outs and such. That way we'd all know (as opposed to guess) if he's capable or not.
While I agree with you on hump relievers, I would like to see more offensive players, pinch hitters, pinch runners, defensive substitutions and such. 5 starters, 12 relievers and 11 position players would blow.
Sure, let them tank but they would acquire real assets for cap space. Acquire real assets and then get better and be competitive. The only way to force teams to fight for a position is to make their place in the major leagues dependent on their record. Imagine if teams like Baltimore got dropped from the major leagues due to a 2-3 year record.
My guess is it could make some teams more competitive quicker. If you could send rookies or draft choices for floor space, then the floor challenged team could "spend its money", but not waste it when it isn't competitive. Also they could gain assets quicker from the ceiling teams that need to buy some space.
What would make sense is a salary floor where the teams that are below the floor could sell that space to the teams pushing the top levels. it would be better all around for the MLBPA.
Does 1b really count as a defensive position of value? And Vlad's father was toast at 35 or so. I don't see him outlasting his father. Same as Prince Fielder.
Are there any players currently under an expensive contract and for whom the team may need to trade, that we might be interested in acquiring? For example Josh Donaldson (though not necessarily him).
We didn't offer a QO for Matz (which I actually disagreed with). I think Rodon is worth a bit more (due to inflation) of the first contract we gave Robbie Ray.
