  1. he sure sounds like a young Bobby, except for the switch hitting.
  2. Man, do we all need to bring the offseason to a close, sign some infielders and pitchers, plan for spring training and get on with it.
  3. Someone posted a little while ago with respect to instructions given to voters and one of the instructions is that (and I paraphrase) the player has to be a good person and so on. So forget it, it's not about being a great player. Stats plus/minus image = votability.
  4. I totally understand you. Ty Cobb is in the Hall but Pete Rose is denied. It's why I'd never go visit the HOF or have anything to do with it. It's a sham.
  5. The HOF's only purpose is to show off some good players who never had any accusations of doing anything wrong. It is a means of putting a myopic view of the game and should be treated as such.
  6. His history was not good, then this new circle of hell.
  7. the "floor" could work the same way as the "cap" in that teams below a certain level have to pay a tax, forfeit draft choices, etc.
  8. One other possibility is that it gets prospects into the hands of teams that know how to train the rookies as opposed to destroying their careers.
  9. We've got them both, so yea, but when I read the list, I look more at where we're lacking and where we're strong, and it seems the answer is that we need some pitching and outfielders and we've got good infield depth.
  10. Does it really matter if Jimenez is ranked over Groshans or vice versa? We have them both so what difference does it make? Looks like we need some pitchers and outfielders though.
  11. You're right. Either way, an excellent signing. Love to hear how his name gets pronounced: sounds like Go Suck A toe. Yeah I said it.
  12. the minor leagues have spring training too. He could be invited to that.
  13. It looks kosher, it's on Sports Illustrated. Looks like a good signing.
  14. Labour relations 101. Always look after the old guys and F the newbies. Lots of examples of this. One of the earliest was the Canadian breweries. Two wage structures, one for the old guys, one for the rookies. Management manipulated it like mad.
  15. I only asked because you mentioned when somebody said we'd probably get Kikuchi that it was fine. I thought we should have tendered Matz and would have been okay if he took the amount and also okay if he didn't (for the draft compensation). Just trying to gauge your interest, nothing more. I figure one year's overpayment is cheaper than Kikuchi risk.
  16. Spanky, which would you prefer: Kikuchi for 3 x $15mm or Matz for 1x$18.5mm?
  17. Basically Votto is a 3 year commitment, 2x25MM and final year of 20. Not a massive risk. Plus he'd get some more rest as a DH here. Still don't think it would happen. He's retiring as a Red.
  18. We aren't getting Votto, although he would be a top addition. And if we are taking on $38 mill of Moose, we aren't giving up much for Castillo. Also not sure if the Reds would use Castillo to get rid of those contracts. I figure taking on Moose would be the equivalent of giving up Martin (and a bit more) as we did earlier for Berrios. So maybe a 7-10 prospect as well. Not sure if I see the Reds doing this.
  19. Votto is not getting traded anywhere. Not going to happen. If we took on Moustakas and that large contract, we're not giving up a top 4-5 prospect. Not for 38 million guaranteed dollars.
  20. If the commissioner kept crappy teams from spending money on players that won't help them so much, then maybe we could keep the salary increase in check. Seager and Semien will not turn Texas into a contender.
  21. I just imagine the Rogers crew will want to up the player budget as part of the improvement of the stadium. Create some excitement or something like that. Atkins has nothing to say with that.
  22. I can see why we'd want Seager as either a 2b or 3b and generally I think he's worth it on a long deal. McNeil would be a 3b we could acquire for a relatively cheap cost. I know they were in on Syndergaard but if they got him, would they have still gone for Gausman? If only one were brought in, I'd still rather Gausman. I'd still like more pitching, and that's where I'd probably put more $$, but I don't know if I like any of the remaining free agent starters. I'm not sure we're all in yet, I still think that will be tied to the upgrade of the stadium.
  23. I understand your point, McNeil is an okay to have, not a must. But where do you see Moreno playing? I think he's better utilized at 3b, personally (to save his legs) and I don't want to burn him out as a catcher. If he's at 3b, then the bigger fish might be a waste.
  24. I would take him if he plays 3b and Biggio 2b. So okay, Stripling and Leo Jimenez or Kevin Smith.
