  1. 480 over 15 would make sense at 32 m per year. Vald's already turned down 10/340 and whatever else the Jays offered after that. Vlad wants to be among the highest AAVs in the game. He said the Soto contract didn't affect his ask and he already had his demands in place before that. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. Maybe it's true in that it wasn't the Soto contract that changed anything but it was Ohtani's because Vlad was 2nd to him in the MVP in 2021 and Vlad truly thinks he is a comparable player to the unicorn. I don't know this for a fact at all, just saying if 480 over 15 years was his number, the ink would already be dry on a done deal.
  2. Sure, just move the articles out of the forum section. They already appear on the front landing page and have their own subheading. They don't need to be in the forum section too.
  3. When asked if the negotiations got close in numbers ...Vlad said one word. No.
  4. If anything, the Alonso situation should be showing Vlad what the league thinks about 1b value. #2, why didn't Houston trade Bregman last year then? Understand I'm just playing devils advocate here. I think comparing 2 teams in different situations isn't overly useful. And there's no 1 bad guy in a 2 way negotiation if a deal doesn't get done , without knowing the details. My feeling is Vlad overvalues himself to the point where blindly caving to his number would be stupid. My feeling is also that Atkins and Shapiro are too risk averse in this specific scenario to get close enough for Vlad to even consider concessions. I blame neither party fully, but lean towards like...55-60% Vlad. But even then, I understand why he's asking for it, he holds all the leverage going into FA.
  5. How can anyone blindingly say Vlad has no responsibility in the situation? Negotiations are a two way street.
  6. I generally agree, but if the one side isn't willing to negotiate in good faith and asks for a price that is so far out there it's ridiculous and doesnt budge.. then what can ya do?
  7. Not a forgone conclusion but.... looking more likely every day now for sure. Which of course now makes it weird... did you cheer for the guy to be MVP level Vlad this season and in doing so increase the odds of a playoff looking team that all bit guarantees no trade at the deadline? Or do you hope he's wildly inconsistent, seemingly proving the brass right for not extending him...but then watching the Jays flounder, and having is value at the deadline be substandard.... Interesting times
  8. Lots of contradiction in Vlad's statements. They weren't close on numbers....I know my value.... they had their numbers, I had mine... Money isn't the only priority ... winning is the goal....I will do everything I can to stay here... So yeah, Vlad asking for far too much money seemingly confirmed. I doubt the number is 450/10 either as that's a number that's not so egregious it couldn't be rationalized.
  9. I dunno what the real deadline is, I'm almost numb and indifferent to it at this point.
  10. Agreed, but the Astros and the Jays are not in the same situation as franchises. Pointing to team X and saying "they did it so the Jays should have too" isn't overly productive.
  11. And Ortiz didnt even get any longer term deals either, his longest contract was only 4 years. Even raking as a DH for as long as he did, the long term commitments weren't there. Yes, different ages and Ortiz is the purest of pure DHs, but there was still enough worry that he would crater sooner rather than later. He just never really did.
  12. He's such a polarizing player ... easy to see HoF hitting talent, yet his results are not consistent. The rest of the package is flawed, baserunning and defense. That said, his value to the franchise is not purely on-field related. Casuals love the guy and he's a Roger's marketing wet dream for their brand. If there's no signing, I would just wonder how far apart the ask and the offer actually were. Who knows. I'd love to see him get signed, but it also feels like his ask is probably way too high for a guy of his on-field results.
  13. None of this rambling incoherence makes any sense. point #1: "Atkins has shown no loyalty to any player...". Who cares? Loyalty gets you screwed. No player signs as a free-agent to an organization because of some made-up feeling of loyalty. point #2: "We should have been all over Vladdy last year when we could have easily locked him in for life for $300 million." Says who? Made up feelings and conjecture? Point #3: "We need pirtching more than anything but we have to get long term out of our straters..." 3 of the biggest workhorses in today's game are in the Jays starting staff. Clueless point. Point #4 " and super relief from the bullpen..." Every team needs this. This is not a Jays specific problem. Yes, their pen was complete dumpster fire last season. Now, Atkins has 3 bonafide back end capable relievers now in Garcia, Hoffman and Green, and additional arms brought in via trade. Pitching staff as a while projects very well. I could go on, but... these are are the big ones. Try again when you have an ounce of baseball acumen.
  14. The two weeks prior to ST are easily the worst two weeks of the offseason. Hurry up and wait
  15. Probably the best umpire in MLB was fired. Pat Hoberg had a gambling account, shared his info with someone, and that person used his account to place bets on baseball, including 8 games Hoberg umpired in, but zero evidence Hoberg's calls were influenced and no bets were ever placed by Hoberg's device, just his account. He did apparently delete some messages that had to do with the investigation. Sucks.
  16. I don't presume to speak for others, just me. If I want to read an article, I prefer clicking to the place where the articles are. If I want to read discussion posts about general blue jays or baseball topics, I would rather click there and not have to sift past the stuff I don't want to read. It's just an extension of the same logic as to why the minor league portion of the forums is separated from the the others, why the non-baseball is separated. Articles here. Forums there News over here.
  17. Is it possible to have the articles separated from the forum threads? I get that content generation is key in driving traffic, but I don't want to have scroll through all the articles to get to the non-article threads. And honestly, the volume of articles already is irritating, but that's just "old man yelling at clouds" syndrome Is that available in customization?
  18. Whitt i think was one...
  19. The Yates signing isn't official by any stretch, from reading between the lines it was a "agreement in principle if......." and they hadn't even formally agreed to those ifs yet.
  20. Would you take these things off already? I don't deserve this shabby treatment. *buzzer* If you know, you know.
