  1. Oh snap! Yonge/bloor challenge coming up!
  2. Good read from Rosenthal on this whole Cano thing.
  3. Oh good, now we've turned this thread into a tribute to spanky
  4. I don't either, but a lot more teams should be using them as tools. It might help them not get bent over by Friedman on a regular basis
  5. I don't disagree with the valuations, and the fact that this type of thinking is actually starting to slowly slip into the MLB psyche is great. I just know there's now ay in hell that Tampa would trade Price for Polanco and be satisfied with the return because his projected surplus value is higher. They'll probably get an even better return than they did for Shields, even though that was an overpay
  6. I was at the game in San Fran when Freddy Sanchez broke his arm. Love that stadium
  7. I get this argument, but what isn't mentioned here is that there's still a lot more uncertainty as to whether a Polanco-type prospect will actually live up to the projections, whereas there far less uncertainty about Price living up to his. That's why teams will usually get far more return than these types of valuations.
  8. Oh don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the guy leave New York. One ellsbury injury, Jeter pulled groin and texeira DL stint and they be running a very interesting lineup.
  9. No chance he gets recognition as a Yankee legend if he plays half his career for another team. You gotta remember this is a franchise where even just being above average, like pettitte's, gets you hall of fame talk, when pettitte's numbers are comparable to mark Buerhle for his career. The help, prestige and legacy of career Yankees is massive. i don't think anyone actually remembers that Pettitte pitched for the Astros for 3 years, and admitted to using PEDs
  10. I don't think he cares about loyalty, I think he cares about being a Yankee legend, like Jeter. He can't be that if he signs in Seattle
  11. I wonder maybe Cano is telling them he'll sign if they show they're serious about winnng, in essence telling them that if they land Price via trade... I also for got to take into consideration that Seattle's new 2 billion dollar tv deal that starts in 2014. I still think 10 years is too long, but... I guess they'll have the money to spend
  12. 5:15pm: Cano asked the Mariners for a ten-year, $240MM deal, but the Mariners' offer did not exceed $200MM, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets. Maybe Jack Z not as fully retarded as previously reported. Still... pretty retarded, but not full retard.
  13. Has Delmon Young been taken yet? DEM ARRR BEE EYEZ!
  14. If Seattle lands Cano, it will be a colossal mistake. the amount of money they'd have to pay him to go there instead of the Yankees would be obscene and would practically cripple their ability to sign anyone for the next 8-9 years. Jack Z is retarded but there's no way he's that retarded. JayZ and company are just using the Seattle rumours to put pressure on the Yankees to up their offer.
  15. hell... even 3 is pushing it for a guy who hits lighter than johnny mac and only plays 2b.
  16. Yup, definitely not on of AA's strong suits, no doubt about it.
  17. It's hard to hold back when there's actually people out there in favour of keeping JPA based on flawed arguments and nothing more than pie in the sky hopes.
  18. I know that was one of the rumoured features of the new deal a few days ago, could be completely off the table by now.
  19. Pretty silly isn't it? LIke if the Jays had Trout and he was going into his arb years and they wanted to extend him, but wouldn't go past 5 years.... it's ridiculous to have a hard rule of "nothing past X years." It really is. as long as it's planned out the right way and not completely horrendous value on the back end, a 6 or 7 year deal isn't a franchise crippler. For hitters alone though, anyone who would guarantee more than 5 years to a pitcher is f***ing retarded.
  20. I agree, keeping them all healthy and performing will be the trick, along with a pitching staff that doesn't absolutely stink.
  21. f***. Now my life has no meaning...
  22. If you're xxFIP doesn't include gravity, the earth's rotation and solar winds in it's calculations, I will have lost all faith in you
  23. the blame for this thread lies squarely on the mods for not closing after the first post.
  24. Oh don't get your panties in a bunch. You're as much an "armchair expert" as anyone here. I think the point that people have in their approval; of JPA hitting the bricks is that he just put up one of the worst season's in the history of the game. Do you know how many qualified seasons have been played so far in the history of MLB? Tens of thousands. JPA was one of the worst... in the tens of thousands of qualified seasons of baseball. It was his 3rd full year, and he's not a "youngster." going into next year he will be 28, that's typically not an age where a guy suddenly changes everything about his game and becomes good. And even if it were the case where a team wants to take a chance and work with him, you sure as hell don't do it in a year where your team believes(rightly or wrongly) that they are trying to make a push for the playoffs. You also don't want a guy around who shoots his mouth off to the media just because they criticize his play and tell everyone in the world that you are speaking on behalf of the whole team especially when he's in the middle of, just in case you missed it earlier, one of the worst seasons in the history of major league baseball. Can he be better? Sure. It's practically impossible to be worse... and whatever team that might pick him up, I say good luck.
