What if Santiago Espanal is Actually Good?

The thing in the Jays favour is that Espinal is exactly the kind of player they don't need to sign to an extension to cover his arb years, since the numbers he will put up will not be the kind that wins massive arbitration awards. 10-15 HR per year + good defense, a solid starter who likely puts up 2-4 WAR while getting paid nothing close to his actual on field value. He's the surplus value darling we will need to offset Vlad, Bo and others. -

People and fans always overrreact to small sample size stuff in the early going of every season. If someone starts hot, they're seen as a great hitter for the next 3 months even if they stink for 2 of those months. If someone starts like donkey nuts, they're thought of to suck for at least 3 months, even if they hit fine for 2 of those months. It's like people's brains shut off at the start of the season and think the first 2 weeks of plate appearances define a season for a player.
