    When Biggio is off Covid protocol, they would need to open a spot on the 40 man roster for him, either by DFA or transferring someone to the 60 day DL. Can't get around that. They could DFA Biggio also, but that's not happening any time soon. Chances are, if nobody is going to the 60 day DL, then someone gets punted via DFA. Likely candidates being Heineman, Zimmer or Capra depending on the status of other injured Jays

    K, so they suspended Sam Dyson for the full 2021 season without any charges filed against him. So i guess they feel this is worse than what he did.

    It's because when COVID was running wild, teams could have 5+ players on COVID protocol at one time, having to DFA 20% of your roster to keep up with that would be non-sensical.

    Also, quick question. Can he play while appealing his suspension? or does his admin leave continue? Seems like you cant be on admin leave and suspension at the same time, and players have always been allowed to play while appealing suspensions in the past.

    All labour relations is very broad statement. how could they possibly use every suspension from every union for comparison? Seems like using major sports union suspensions would be the more appropriate comparisons. And for domestic abuse precedent, there's no better place to look than the NFL. Half a season is the current precedent and that's with criminal charges filed and video evidence of the crime, so how this gets 2 full seasons is kinda hard to see

    I dont see how he could. MLB and the PA has made nearly 0 public statements about this whole thing other than the usual "we are proceding with our investigation...respecting the process..."

    I wonder how quick the appeal hearing will be. Granted I know very little of the details of the investigation (ditto for the rest of us), but how does the length of this suspension fit any precedent from prior suspensions for violations of the policy? This seems like a slam dunk reduction on appeal.

    Speaking for myself only, I understand why umps get extremely borderline calls wrong sometimes. The problem is not with the pitches that barely graze the edges of the zone with just the very edge of the spinning stitches, the problem is it's impossible to be consistent with those calls due to the limitations of the human eye. That's when it gets crazy, when pitches in basically identical locations get called balls and strikes back and forth. I will say i am alos firmly in the camp of the ones where the pitcher misses his spot but ends up throwing the ball well within the strize zone to be strikes. Understanding why something is called a ball does not excuse it being called a ball when it's not even close. And i think the reason they get those calls so wrong is because of where the ump sets up on those pitches. If they just set up in a more central location, they'd be far less influenced by the catcher's movements.

    I grew up a few minutes from a bison farm. It's mighty good, but very very very lean. Not enough fat for my tastes. Elk is incredible too for leaner game meats

    no, cant pitch without a catcher. Aside from the pitcher, the catcher is the only other position player that has to be in a certain spot. every other fielder the only current rule is that they all must begin the play in fair territory.

    Yeah that's what i was hinting at with him starting to get back on the right track. He hired an army of scouts, crosscheckers, evaluators etc and as a result got some guys that other teams were nowhere near. Step 1 - done. Definitely not so good at step 2 of the development, but it was better than under JPR, even if he ended up trading them all rather than keeping them in house. AA really shined in gaming the then ridiculous Type A and B compensation system for extra draft picks too.

    I dont know the cap rules of the NBA that well, but given the youth on their roster, they should have a decent amount of space for additions right? LIke, whether it's via trade or FA?

    It was horrifying. Up and down his draft lists are nothing buts random cups of coffee, part time nobodies, backup catchers and future relievers. His draft record was beyond horrendous

    I dont think its intent is to hold things against umps, but rather to show the kind of impact a missed call can have in any given situation. They're not saying that call was the worst call, just that it potentially impacted the potential run scoring environment more. They explain their methodology quite well on their website.

    Jp Ricciardi was the GM from 2001 to 2009. Pretty much explains all of that with his draft philosophy and gutting the scouting dept. Then AA came along and got them started back on the right track but yeah, it really did take until the current regime to see meaningful impacts.
