    Certainly true. But, at this point, even if we assume a Vlad extension, the lineup has virtually 0 power outside of Vlad. They need thump and they need it badly. The one wildcard in all this is Orelvis, but one cannot expect anything out of him yet. Sign them both, give up the picks. If all goes well. They make.noise in the playoffs. If s*** goes south, trading whomever you can at the deadline recoups the 2 lost picks with players they didn't have to draft and spend 2-3 in the minors developing. If they want contention, they have to take risks at this point. Status quo isn't good enough. Playing it safe is the wrong strategy for this situation IMO If they don't want to take risks now for 2025, may as well just start the retool/rebuild early.

    My vote goes to signing Santander and Alonso. Easy DH rotation between the 2 of them plus Vlad, though primarily I'd have Santander in LF, Alonso DH and Vlad at 1st. Clement at 3rd most days. As for contracts, I'd just offer short term deals, front loaded with 1 year opt outs. Like, if Santander wants 5/100, fine. But it's a 10m signing bonus and 30m for 2025, then 60 over the last 4. Basically begging him to opt out because you don't really want him for another 4 years anyways. Same style for Alonso.

    If anything, without a Vlad extension, the teams should absolutely be open to short term deals. May as well stack the team as best you can for 2025 with the uncertainty surrounding that situation

    I heard them talking about this a few weeks ago also. It was mentioned that his endorsements in Japan would likely be much higher if he signed somewhere as the only Japanese player rather than a team with Ohtani, which...makes sense Of course, if depends on what he ranks higher in importance. Clearly the teamwith the best chance to win is LA. The team where he can play with his idol/mentor and still have decent shot at post season play is SD. The team with the highest endorsement potential is likely Toronto, but easily the lowest real shot at winning over the next 6-7 seasons, but you can still squint and see some positives.

    Another factor for Sasaki perhaps not signing with the Dodgers and maybe going elsewhere... he'd probably make more in Japanese endorsements being the main Japanese player on a roster that doesn't have Ohtani on it.

    If ga want to pay a free agent for half a win improvement over Clement...be my guest. That's not a way to move the needle. Incremental win improvements at this point are bull****. Team needs impact bats and pen arms. Kim is neither of those. Edit: Wtf is this censoring crap?

    Even so, SP isn't whatvthe Jays need to improve right now. Subbing in Quantrill for Yariel...might be a 1 win improvement. Sure...a win is a win and if the Jays didn't have literally no power aside from Vlad and a bullpen with more holes than OJs defense, it would be a decent gamble

    At this point they need to get weird and creative Offer whomever they want to target a big dollar deal with an opt-out after 2025. Make 2025 a bigger AAV than the rest. Do that with Bregman and Santander and then pray they both opt out after Vlad and Bo leave. Seriously just throw money at 2025, and hopefully make one last deep run with Bo and Vlad hopefully hitting like they can. If not, deadline trades and the firesale to end all firesales
