  1. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2025&month=0&season1=2025&ind=0&sortcol=12&sortdir=asc&pagenum=1 Take a look at the second player on this list and it becomes clear that their decisions regarding Devers were not about improving team defense.
  2. While that is unquestionably true, I expect that you just didn't have a counterargument to the points that I made. Watch any game and you'll see how awful Campbell looks.
  3. Vladdy was a minor leaguer. Devers was an established veteran. We're talking apples and oranges here. Devers got out of a horrible situation and joined a first class one, so I don't think he cares how he looks at this point.
  4. Kristian Campbell is in the discussion for the worst fielder in MLB. He looks unathletic and has hands of stone. He already looks like a corner outfielder or DH longterm. They surely had some inkling of how bad he was, but still made the decision to tell Devers to 'put his glove away'. That quote is definitely confirmed. Players back each other when a teammate gets screwed over and lied to, even if it's not the best for the team. I only know it from hockey/work, but I think the team dynamic would be the same.
  5. I really don't think you can put that kind of thing in a contract. There hasn't been any reporting that such an agreement didn't exist. Boston made the promise and then they lied, plain and simple. Bloom was gone, but nobody in their right mind thinks he made that promise and kept it hidden from ownership or the team President. This really has nothing to do with Breslow. For their troubles, they lost a franchise cornerstone for pennies on the dollar and their reputation with free agents. As I said earlier, I'd be willing to bet that most of Boston's players took Devers' side, even if they don't express it outwardly.
  6. Devers' abilities at 3B haven't changed at all, according to any advanced stats that I can see. That argument doesn't hold any water in my view. The idea that the owners and President don't know what was agreed to is also questionable in my opinion. I would be absolutely shocked if they had no input or stamp of approval on a contract of that magnitude. I'd not usually an advocate for players, but I think it was reasonable for Devers to expect promises to be kept. I'd be surprised if most of his (now former) teammates didn't actually support his position.
  7. The notion that the Team Owners and Team President can change one person's job and rid themselves of any obligations or promises to employees is absolutely ludicrous in my opinion. You are the one that is out to lunch. It doesn't work that way in the real world. At my current job, for example, I had a non-contractual understanding with my supervisor regarding lieu time (different than the government standard). He was fired and my new supervisor disagrees with that decision, but continues to 'grandfather' it for a couple of employees. That's pretty standard practice
  8. I don't see a lot of fault from Devers. He wanted to play 3B and secured that promise as a condition of signing his contract. Everyone knew that he sucked at 3B, nothing has changed since then. They supplant him with Bregman and he's upset because he was lied to and stabbed in the back. I really think it's understandable at this point. He meets with the team and instead of demanding a trade, he takes one for the team and moves to a DH role. He plays really well in that role. Devers looks good at this point, if anything. Then Casas goes down and they ask him to switch to an entirely new position once again, one he has never played before. I understand the view of some who criticize him for not wanting to move again, but consider the context. He's been lied to and betrayed, but takes the high road and performs well. Then when they try to do it again, he stands up for himself and gets publically shamed by the organization. I can certainly picture myself being upset, were I put in the same situation. Can't you?
  9. I would argue that a team that makes promises to a player in order to get them to sign also has responsibilities. Nobody likes being lied to and stabbed in the back by their employer, even rich baseball players. Money doesn't just make that kind of thing go away, but Devers actually met his responsibilities and played well. Boston continues to show why they are the worst organization in the history of professional sports.
  10. Devers almost certainly have gotten twice as much in the offseason, if not more. He's still playing as good as he ever has. They lost a true star player and a ton of value because of organizational mismanagement. They lied to a black player and treated him like s***. No surprise there, as that kind of thing is in their organizational DNA.
  11. For now, I'm comfortable with Lauer and Scherzer. I think there will be better options for us going forward.
  12. They still have a month or so to turn things around, but a couple of teams have really fallen out of playoff contention during that time. Seattle can't win a game where Raleigh doesn't drag them to a victory. LA and Boston were never really contenders to begin with and just solidified that over the past month. I'm starting to feel the same way about Kansas City. Right now, unless something changes, it's Tampa, Minnesota, Cleveland, and us fighting for 3 spots. That's reflected with fangraphs giving us a 2/3 chance of making it. They still like Seattle more than Cleveland, but I certainly don't.
  13. Will Robertson called up. No corresponding move yet, but maybe Lukes to the IL? That, or Rodent to AAA.
  14. In your crazy stat of the day, the difference between the Jays best defense and the Nationals worst defense is already over 50 runs. The Cardinals have the third best defense and it's only provided one third of the value that the Jays defense has (5.8 runs to 17.4).
  15. Rays, Guardians, and Twins lose. Astros and Mariners losing. Yankees won, but a pretty solid night in the out of town scoreboard so far.
  16. One hell of a game. My heart is still racing.
  17. One of the only plays I've seen Gimenez botch all year. He's so good that you expect him to make that.
  18. Not a bad pitch from Green by any means, but a great piece of hitting from Arenado.
  19. I expected us to be 3rd and them 5th, so that isn't particularly surprising.
  20. Wow. Barger has really taken tremendous strides with his defense. I wonder if Kiermaier has had a hand in it.
  21. A loser playing for the worst organization in this history of professional sports is a perfect pairing. He must enjoy the racist taunts from the crowd.
  22. Devers was promised that he would play 3B as a condition of his contract extension. This is all on the organization.
  23. Crime Dog has that same backfoot stance but, like Moseby, he usually wore batting gloves as well. This is a tough one, I like it. I'm thinking it's Big John Mayberry, but I could see Willie Upshaw as well
  24. This is why Garcia has never been a closer. A choke of tremendous proportions, wow.
