  1. I think that if Shapiro were able to be honest, he would admit that they misread the market. They obviously didn't expect the 1B/DH market to be so slow or they wouldn't have been so quick to overpay for Morales.
  2. I certainly will. It's not Edwin's fault that we made a mistake in jumping on Morales in a flooded market. He'd probably be back by now if we had waited. Bautista's defense kind of pushed him out of our plans, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a great player here. I'll be always like him.
  3. I think that the Morales mistake will cost us more wins than the Smoak extension.
  4. The Morales deal is the worst move that Shapiro has made and several people said much at the time. It's not smart to pounce on a second tier option so early in the offseason, even if the deal turns out alright in a bubble.
  5. Well you would need 47 WAR multiplied by whatever dollar value you choose. At 8 million, that would be 376 million.
  6. I feel bad for him too. Surely he would have been happier to remain poor and unknown.
  7. We don't get their pick. They forfeit it and we get a pick in the compensatory round.
  8. No, the top teams are protected. They would surrender a second round pick.
  9. Ryan Madson is the only name that I can come up with that is any sort of fit.
  10. Mitch Moreland actually got a major league deal from someone so you never know.
  11. Urias and Pederson would be a good starting point.
  12. They wanted Brad Brach from the Orioles as a reference point. I'd be willing to give up a decent prospect or maybe Biagini if necessary. Perhaps even a 3 way deal with a team like the Padres could work if they insist on getting a reliever.
  13. My top trade and FA targets for each position: RF - Trade for Curtis Granderson or sign Jose Bautista LF - Trade for Seth Smith or sign Brandon Moss C - Trade for Kevin Plawecki or sign Wellington Castillo LH RP - Trade for Patrick Corbin or sign Jerry Blevins RH RP - Trade for Brandon Maurer or sign Rubby De La Rosa You're looking at between 25 and 35 million depending on the choices, but all short term.
  14. I'm not as optimistic about those guys to be honest. Ross and Nova could be good, but I feel like Nova would be too expensive and Ross has his injuries. I'd rather just roll with Happ and Seth Smith or something.
  15. On the trade market: Granderson, Smith, Dyson On the free agent market: Moss, Pagan, maybe Rasmus.
  16. Anyone who wants to trade Happ needs a plan to replace him effectively in the rotation. It would be much easier to just grab an expensive outfielder from someone.
  17. I understand the argument that Fowler could possibly give them full value on this contract, even though I find the projections overly optimistic. That being said, the front office also has to look at the remaining players available at this point in the offseason and weigh their options. There are comparably talented outfielders still available and we surely have a read on their price tags.
  18. We were smart to not touch that deal. I'd rather give up a prospect for a comparable outfielder like Granderson than be stuck with Fowler in 2020 and 2021.
  19. Signing an elite hitter isn't a last resort, it's a priority.
  20. Pay up on a 1 year deal and stick him back in RF.
  21. I said that, but hurl and Spanky had conflicting information.
  22. Ok so I'm not the only one. I really don't know what is correct to be honest, but I suspect he's league min for 2017.
  23. That definitely isn't what was reported at the time of the trade. I don't know what's correct, but there's conflicting information.
  24. It was a total of 5 million between the two seasons so it's less than that either way. Maybe someone can find the true breakdown, but it doesn't matter much to me what payroll is as long as we get the right players.
