  1. So what? Sign Beltran, sign Bautista, sign Napoli, sign Trumbo, make a trade. You think those were the only 2 options? Don't be so obtuse.
  2. Obsessed with what? If we offered 4/80 then the team thinks he is better than Morales too. Use some common sense. Why did you include Pearce in your list? We signed a DH and then signed Pearce. It would be the same scenario. It's perfectly reasonable to expect a player back when your team is his first choice and he signs for less than what the team is willing to offer. That almost always gets done.
  3. Players don't make it all of the way to free agency and then not test the market. You know that and so does Shapiro. Had we been patient and circled back with that offer , it's a good possibility that Edwin would be back in Toronto. Had the offer been made in March, I'd be more inclined to place blame on Edwin.
  4. Basically, was a better outcome than what we have now ever a realistic possibility for us?
  5. If you answer my question, I might better understand your point of view. Right now, all I'm getting is "Shapiro did good because I said so." Which of these don't you agree with? 1. We could have not signed Morales and gotten EE for something close to 3/60. 2. Having EE on the roster on that type of deal is more desirable than having Morales for 3/33.
  6. I never said that a deal wasn't offered. Which of these don't you agree with? 1. We could have not signed Morales and gotten EE for something close to 3/60. 2. Having EE on the roster on that type of deal is more desirable than having Morales for 3/33. I agree with both of those statements so the only possible conclusion is that they f***ed up.
  7. They are not being villified. They are being criticized for making a mistake. People on this forum and the media saw that the 1B/DH market was flooded. This wasn't a huge surprise.
  8. You're way out of touch on that issue. It was pretty clear after we signed Morales that EE wasn't coming back and it was a virtual certainty after we got Pearce. I and many others said as much multiple times. Guys like Shi Davidi also mentioned in almost all of their articles regarding EE. If the team wanted EE on the roster, they certainly would have just signed him for 3/60, but the rumour is that we had a 1 year offer on the table. I like what Shapiro has done overall, but this as clear of a mistake as you will ever see from a front office. They f***ed up in a big way. It's OK to admit that while still liking the FO and having faith in them.
  9. You won't be repeating, that's for damn sure. A drop off of close to 100 runs should be expected.
  10. It's easy to complain because with patience, we would have had the player we wanted and needed for LESS that what we originally offered. If the reports that we offered EE 4/80 (or anything close) are accurate then we can conclusively say that they misread the market and made a mistake. That isn't to say that Morales is a bad signing in a bubble, but it's a virtual certainty that they would have done things differently with the benefit of hindsight. Also, I'm hesitant to say that this 'early strike' philosophy is any sort of trend. The Estrada contract was all LaCava, so we're left with 2 data points. I think that our situation almost forced them into the Happ signing.
  11. There's no question that he's right. We've already seen it play out.
  12. If that's the case, we can safely assume that the front office was working under severe payroll constraints and did not reveal that fact.
  13. I like Moss as a left field option, but he can't be the only move that we make. Upton would platoon with Moss in addition to pinch running and defensive replacements, so we would need a good, everyday RF. Someone like Bautista or Granderson.
  14. So it's selfish, just like he said.
  15. He's got to do more than hit well. I don't think they want to use him in a bench role just yet, as he needs some time to develop. Perhaps he will be a September callup like Bobthe4th said.
  16. This quite clearly refers to his contemporaries.
  17. Prospects are so volatile in baseball that there's definitely merit to having a lot of depth. It's a lot different than hockey or basketball in that way. We see unknown guys jump to top 10 prospect status in a single year and we see guys like Alford and Urena develop into stars every once in a while. I think we'll get at least a couple of quality regulars and a high end starter from this current top 10-15 prospects, which is more that what most teams can say.
  18. I think you'll be very surprised when organization rankings start coming out. I'm not saying it is top 10, but we're right in that mix. I did say since the start of the season though that we're in the top half and l'm certain that is still correct. I'm curious if you have the time, name 10-12 systems that you think are clearly better. I can't do it.
  19. You make it sound like singing an elite hitter for one season will somehow prevent us from being good in the future. We arguably have a top 10 farm system and are by no means desperate for a single pick.
  20. Yay, obviously.
  21. ZIPS projects us at closer to 90 wins than 81.
  22. It's probably in or near the top 10% of contracts for both salary and length. Unless I'm way off with those estimates, there's no question that it's expensive and long term. I just put out a factual statement to refute the OP's claims. I don't know why you take issue with that.
  23. We signed a different DH to an expensive long term deal, so it doesn't really fit the rebuild narrative.
  24. This is a hell of a move by Cleveland, probably the best of the offseason so far.
  25. Shapiro and Atkins, clearly.
