  1. Overpaying for a player to protect yourself from being left holding the bag can be a good move, but not in a game where there are more chairs than people. It was rather obvious that all teams could fill their DH spots and there would still be good hitters left.
  2. We've done fine with worse pitchers than them on the roster.
  3. The Colon, Lee, Sabathia, and Jimenez deals would qualify as pretty big trades in my books.
  4. Why would we be lucky if he pitches well? It should be expected at this point. His health is more of a wildcard.
  5. How on earth did you come up with that? Hill was the most valuable component in the trade, that's all.
  6. Hill was the gem of that trade and they got 3 solid prospects for him. We could get something very good for Estrada at the deadline if we wanted to.
  7. I only mention Plawecki because they committed 2 million to Rivera and also have d'Arnaud. It's at least conceivable that he doesn't make their roster and they make him available. As for Navarro, I don't really want him back either. It just feels like they will go after him. They liked him enough to get him at the deadline
  8. I think he'd certainty net a top 100 prospect at the deadline in a typical Estrada year. Look what Rich Hill got.
  9. I think I'd still do that. We have a ton of 2017 payroll room if Shapiro was telling the truth back in October.
  10. Hundley has a good bat, but his framing numbers are cringe worthy. They are all only good on one side of the he ball outside of Wieters. If I had to guess, we probably end up with Navarro back unless we make a trade. I'd love to nab Kevin Plawecki in March. If he's out of options, he might come cheap, but I'm not sure.
  11. Steve Clevenger (31) Hank Conger (29) Ryan Hanigan (36) Nick Hundley (33) Dioner Navarro (33) Brayan Peña (35) A.J. Pierzynski (40) Jarrod Saltalamacchia (32) Kurt Suzuki (33) Josh Thole (30) Matt Wieters (31)
  12. We probably would have pursued Tyson Ross if Estrada were available, considering Ross came at a bargain basement price.
  13. Six million for Tyson Ross. I would have paid him more than that to come here. I'm disappointed that we didn't get him.
  14. Don't be so obtuse. He's not going to say it flat out, but stating that they misread his market is akin to making a mistake. If he hadn't misread it, we would have Edwin at a bargain price. It doesn't get much more cut and dry in this business.
  15. Nice to see Shapiro confirm that they made a mistake with Edwin after I got roasted here for saying so. He's been around the block a few times and made his fair share of brilliant moves and mistakes. I like his work on the whole so far.
  16. That's reasonable, but you have to add in Chavez's salary (4 million? total guess). We'll see if Bolsinger ever makes an impact on this club. I like the trade either way for the depth, but I'm not as convinced as others that he'll be a quality pitcher in this division.
  17. The Liam Hendriks move will probably end up being worse, if it isn't already. That can be mostly attributed to Tony LaCava though, along with the Estrada and Happ signings. He basically had full autonomy during that period according to Shapiro.
  18. It's worth noting that Darwin Barney was arbitration eligible. People often cite this as a good move, when it was basically a no-brainer.
  19. To each his own. It still proves the point that Cleveland fans have the disposable income to spend on sports. I can't see the fan experience being any better for the worst team in the league, but I don't like the slow, plodding American version of football.
  20. He makes a good point that Cleveland fans have the money to shell out for sporting events. They just pick the wrong sport.
  21. I wouldn't even consider a deal like that even if they would. We don't have any way to even come close to replacing Estrada at this point.
  22. Big story that probably changes his future outlook in Toronto.
  23. You missed the point anyways. If we had passed on Morales, we could have also used Beltran as a bargaining chip or another option. Edwin's agent had time to explore his market by then, time that he didn't have with Morales.
  24. That's complete and utter horseshit. Shapiro already threw out a payroll number and we have plenty of money to fill all of our needs with or without Encarnacion. Our number 1 need was a good bat that could play outfield. To think that we'd hesitate to pay 6 million to Pearce to address that need is utterly absurd.
