  1. The reason it's out there is because it's near the site of the first recorded modern baseball game. Coopertown is supposed to be that spot, but that's been proven incorrect on multiple occasions.
  2. Quantitatively worse than last year. We're an old team that is a year older. We lost 2 key performers and replaced them with lesser players without improving in other areas. The farm system isn't in any better of a position to help us immediately. I can't really pinpoint a single area where we have improved.
  3. His 4.99 FIP last year and mediocre projections aren't too appealing to me, but he may be worth a shot at the price range we're talking about
  4. It's hard to say at this point. The market for middle relievers has been so slow.
  5. So rumour is that we're looking to get a RH reliever at a similar price tag. Who would you give 3 million to? Joe Blanton and Sergio Romo are appealing at that price. Matt Belisle, David Hernandez, and Fernando Salas are all somewhat interesting as well.
  6. I like this signing. He's a great fit and a great value. If we can get another RHP setup guy to complement Grilli, the bullpen will look pretty solid.
  7. We haven't really upgraded on Thole just yet, unfortunately.
  8. I'll wait to see if his right arm is still attached on Opening Day before making that statement.
  9. One person said 'the likes of Danny Barnes' in the context of a larger discussion about David Robertson. I get that you like him a ton for whatever reason, but you derailed the entire conversation for no reason. Just pretend he said some other peripheral roster piece that isn't very important to the success of the team. Adding Robertson and a lefty would give us the bullpen that we need to compete in the East. Osuna Robertson Grilli Blevins? Biagini ?? Bolsinger Even then, there is a fair bit of uncertainty, but we have some interesting pieces to audition and can handle some uncertainty in the final 2 spots.
  10. The point was that David Robertson would be a worthwhile addition if we can get him for a peripheral roster player or mid-range prospect. Danny Barnes was just a name thrown out there, not a suggestion.
  11. We can't be afraid to take a calculated risk because of what happened with Drew Storen. We took similar risks (statistically, not financially) with Grilli and Benoit and it worked out. You make a valid point about Robertson having a down year, but if the FO believes that he will bounce back then it's a good risk to take. We need a guy like Robertson badly and we have the money to spend.
  12. I do, thanks. I checked out the Jays, but I'm planning to read the rest later.
  13. He was a better baseball player, statistically at least. I can't say that I know the criteria for this award though.
  14. Law always makes some valid points (like with concerns about Moncada), but over exaggerates the point in his rankings. I think it was pretty bad as well, but worth a read.
  15. Wow, this list looks awful. BA is still the standard, clearly. I'm excited for their list.
  16. With respect to Osuna, I don't think he was even the best Mexican athlete on his own team.
  17. I'd gladly take on the salary for a mid range prospect, but I suspect that they would want more.
  18. He's decent relief depth now that he has cleared waivers. I suspect you'll see him in the pen at some point.
  19. Leonel Campos cleared waivers and will stay in the organization.
  20. Shapiro's statement on payroll at the beginning of the offseason should answer that question with a yes. I'm sure they have a plan in mind and are just waiting for the best opportunity to present itself before acting. Patience was the way to go in this offseason and we did a pretty good job of it other than the Morales clusterf***.
  21. Jesus Sucre is available if we want another strong catch and throw guy. He puts the bat on the ball, but doesn't offer any power or plate discipline to speak of.
  22. Coghlan would be nice depth on a minor league deal, for sure.
  23. If the reports that the Twins wanted De Leon and a single lesser prospect for Dozier are true, then I think that the Dodgers made a mistake.
