  1. Brandon Phillips to Atlanta
  2. He's extremely conceited and defensive. It's a fair assumption.
  3. The umpire or Tabata? I'll never fault a player for playing hard.
  4. If you start them indoors and grow different varieties, you can have tomatoes for about 4 months. It really depends on the type of autumn you get. I had green ones ripening on my window sill in late September this year.
  5. You'll just have to take my word for it because I don't remember the specifics, but a Blue Jays player was not awarded first base after being hit in the 2016 season. I want to say it was Donaldson, but I'm not certain.
  6. My grandmother had an interesting way of testing if spaghetti was ready. She would throw a piece at the wall and if it stuck then it was ready. Seems silly, but it was always cooked perfectly. I usually just taste a piece, but I do it every once in a while for her.
  7. BA shows that they are still the standard to which all other prospect lists aspire. Very well done in my opinion.
  8. He was one of the best owners in all of sports, he also owned the Red Wings and other clubs. Very unfortunate news, my thoughts are with his family.
  9. Wow, that's crazy. I didn't think the electric ones would get hot enough.
  10. You can melt a pot with the stove? Maybe one of those crappy aluminum ones on a gas stove, but I'm not sure.
  11. As tragic as those instances are, it doesn't make anything I said untrue. There are more supporters of fighting than detractors amongst the fans and players. An overwhelming majority in my experience.
  12. I doubt that they ever saw Jimenez as a realistic backup. He was just a safety net in case we couldn't find anyone else.
  13. Fighting is generally supported by diehards, casuals, players, pretty much everyone in hockey. Outside influences are the reason that fighting is being reduced.
  14. So baseball participation really hasn't seen any decline in the past 15 years, interesting.
  15. We obviously disagree on what the fundamental rules of the game are, but I'll drop that for the moment. Can you cite a source that says this proposed change is a priority for the MLBPA and/or TV rights holders? We can infer that there is at least one owner in favour of this rule, but I haven't seen anything else. Admittedly, I haven't looked either.
  16. The Blue Jays announced that they’ve designated left-hander Chad Girodo for assignment in order to create roster space for fellow southpaw J.P. Howell, whose one-year, $3MM deal has now been announced by the team. Girodo just turned 26 three days ago and is coming off a season in which he made his Major League debut with the Jays. In 10 1/3 big league innings, the former ninth-rounder allowed five runs (4.35 ERA) on 11 hits and two walks with five strikeouts. His work in Triple-A Buffalo resulted in a 3.79 ERA with 6.1 K/9, 3.3 BB/9 and a 57.2 percent ground-ball rate. Including both his Major League and Minor League work, Girodo yielded a .263/.289/.419 batting line to left-handed hitters and a much more alarming .347/.417/.584 slash to right-handed opponents.
  17. The take home point that keeps getting missed: Current rules, if enforced, would address time issues more than this second base rule. I'm talking about hitters staying in the batter's box, pitchers staying on the mound, and no 2 minute breaks while teams review replays. Many other changes of this nature have been mentioned ITT. I'd be shocked if they couldn't reduce game times by 20+ minutes. People that are pushing this unnecessary gimmick either don't understand this point or just want something new for the sake of something new. I prefer to make more peripheral changes than to alter the way that the game is played.
  18. To me, 3 on 3 hockey is more like tightening up the strike zone in extra innings. It's the same game, just a little more offense oriented. This second base rule is more like the shootout. It's a gimmick to make the game end faster. Speed guys and bunters like Carrera would take on an extra role, much like shootout specialists. That's just my take, no real logic to it.
  19. At least that's a real thing that happens in hockey. There's no situation where we automatically put a runner on 2nd in baseball.
  20. If you have more walks, you have fewer balls in play. Like I said, we won't know exactly what this means until it is implemented. Anyone pretending to know is a fool.
  21. It's really hard to get a feel for what the change would mean until we see it in action for a few months. My instincts tell me that it would result in more walks and fewer balls in play. It's easy to see a guy like Bautista drastically increasing his walk rate considering how often he is burned on that low strike.
  22. I'd recommend reading the part about enforcing existing rules to those in favour of gimmicks that change the way the game is played. I'm strongly in favour of enforcing the one foot in the box rule, reducing mound visits, and fixing the replay system. If those don't work, I'm somewhat open to strike zone changes (though I don't think the proposed changes will help or be enforced consistently) and some sort of way to make pitchers speed up (no leaving the mound, automatic walks, fewer warm-up pitches). I'm strongly against gimmicks like this 2B rule. It's like the shootout in hockey, as BTS mentioned earlier. We can make the game faster without stupid things like this.
  23. Yeah, like giving teams an extra replay in exchange for forcing them to review immediately. Also, fix the system at the replay center so it doesn't take 8 minutes to make obvious calls.
