  1. All signs point to some major cost cutting on the North side. I think we'll be surprised by who is available on some teams.
  2. I expect that the vast majority of people here would call a 2 year contract a multi year deal. There is no understanding that a 2 year deal is not for multiple years. That's just something you are imagining.
  3. His definition? Multiple means more than one. There is no other definition.
  4. That was in 1916. How old do you think these people are?
  5. Ross said he was a tremendous in game decision maker. That made me cringe.
  6. Having public schools well funded and well attended is in the best interests of everyone in society, even those who choose not to go. That's why people with no children and retirees pay taxes as well.
  7. If they had a problem with his character then they probably wouldn't have traded for him in Cleveland.
  8. It's between 6 and 10 for me
  9. Sounds like he accepted, just as I said. He may have rejected after a normal year, but his agent was smart to take the money.
  10. The Sportsnet article is discussing a trade during the offseason, whereas the first quote is discussing a trade during the season. That may explain the contradiction or it may not.
  11. In that division? I highly doubt it.
  12. Thanks for admitting your mistake. You have a good day as well.
  13. It's only collusion if we don't ask permission from the Indians to speak with him. They can discuss parameters and get a feel for what he will accept.
  14. If you didn't know that weird and unusual were synonyms then you learned your fact for the day. Breaking records is unusual. That's why they are records in the first place. Two relatively close regions setting records in the opposite direction is even more unusual. If one area is setting record highs and another is close to record lows, it stands to reason that the temperature difference is probably one of the largest in recorded history. How can you not understand this?
  15. We were discussing two areas with a similar climate. My city, which had the most snow North America last year, set record high temperatures for 3 days in a row. Many places in Saskatchewan just shattered all time records for snowfall in November. The difference in temperature was well in excess of 30 Celsius. It's not a stretch to say that this was unusual and could very well be the most extreme difference in recorded history.
  16. We'd have to know that the extension is before I can judge what prospects we should give up. That's probably the biggest part of the equation.
  17. Thanks, we didn't know that.
  18. Canada is so weird. I live in a city that gets more snow (on average) than yours and it was a record breaking 20 C here for the last 3 days.
  19. No thanks on Simmons. I'm not upsetting Bichette unless it's for a big upgrade.
  20. Ross Atkins today: "I feel good about acquiring another free agent -- I can tell you that -- in the starting pitcher market. That doesn't mean it will happen, but I feel like we have a chance to do it"
  21. I would agree with that. I thought that Morales was a big mistake at the time, but I don't that is indicative of any future success or failures that we may have. This is a unique offseason, so I'll give them the of the doubt as they navigate it.
  22. Wasted is perhaps not the proper word, but we would certainly be better off spending our payroll elsewhere. I think that we still need to find out what we have in our young pitchers. The contention window for this team isn't so narrow that we need to plug our holes with mediocre veterans instead of giving our promising young pitching a shot. Instead of spending on a guy like Quintana, we could upgrade from a Travis Shaw to a DJ LeMahieu, give or take a couple million. We could perhaps add a guy like Brad Hand to our relief mix for a similar salary. Upgrading a weakness and not blocking prospects is always more favourable than upgrading a relative strength and also blocking prospects. If we can do both then that's great, but our focus should not be on harming the development of our young pitchers for a second consecutive year.
  23. Not a big deal, but those were both Tony LaCava according to the team.
  24. We have very good depth, so I think it makes sense to pay up for a high end starter like Bauer. With guys like Stripling, Hatch, Kay, Murphy, and Zeuch outside of the projected rotation, I'm less concerned about depth than in years past. There isn't a need to waste money on a guy like Quintana or Richards when we should be developing our young pitchers and upgrading other areas.
  25. Solid deal for Ray. You could argue it's a little expensive, but if they believe that 2020 is an anomaly then he's worth it.
