  1. Sounds like Alderson is willing to entertain Springer at a bargain price, but he isn't going to make the top offer.
  2. I probably didn't word that as well I could have, but I expect that any new contract would come after the season. It just seems that players are far more likely to sign a free agent contract after they have already played in Canada. Robbie Ray wouldn't have taken our money if we didn't trade for him, for example.
  3. Bryant is such a good fit for us. The acquisition cost should be low and we get a shot to sign one of the top hitters in the game. If it doesn't work out, we can snag a comp pick and go after one of the big shortstops in 2021.
  4. It's really hard to say what will happen with the market. I get what you are saying, but will a team like the Astros, Cardinals, red sox, or Phillies step up and compete with us for Springer? We don't know if any of these teams are willing or able to put together a 9 figure offer. That's the gamble that our FO seems to be taking. It's certainly a unique offseason where certain teams just can't spend, period.
  5. I'm reading a lot of things in the news like the Mets being out on Springer and the Dodgers being out on Hendricks. Time will tell if our patient approach results in players falling into our laps at reasonable prices.
  6. DJLM, Sugano, Bradley Jr. Hand Assuming 9 mil for Bradley, but who knows
  7. It's obvious to me that we were able to pay the prospect price, but unable to agree to an extension with Lindor.
  8. If I'm Sugano watching the news today, I probably go back to Japan.
  9. The old one was locked and a new one hadn't been created.
  10. I'm going to be optimistic and say he signs with the Blue Jays just because.
  11. Time for an up to date thread. The posting period for Tomoyuki Sugano ends tomorrow. Place your bets as to where he goes.
  12. It's going to a puzzling decision for the team that gives Hendriks 4 years after they passed on Hand for 1 year. There are perhaps some concerns regarding his velocity, but it's only 1 year.
  13. It's looking like the Indians made a mistake.
  14. He's an average defender that gets on base with some pop. It's not a bad gamble for a Tigers team that's looking to fill some holes and be respectable. Maybe the power jump is real, but in the worst case he's a solid platoon outfielder.
  15. Jansen has more value than Kirk to me because he's already a great defender. Kirk may hit more, but I wouldn't hate to deal him now if a team values him as a catcher.
  16. Gord Ash was the GM in 2001.
  17. The burning question of the mind of every Blue Jays fan.
  18. I sure wish we had more coverage of the alternate site. That was a big missed opportunity for Sportsnet.
  19. Surely he was learning a position at the alternate site. They played games every day.
  20. Sometimes you get a Lourdes Gurriel and sometimes you get a Rusney Castillo. I trust this front office's judgment.
  21. I couldn't agree more. It's abundantly clear that no teams saw him as a likely 3+ WAR starter like many in the industry are predicting.
  22. Replace Moreno with another 45 FV like Kay and I would do that. Let's call Caritini and Davies a wash to make this easy.
  23. The lower guarantee makes me feel better about not signing Kim in a way. It signals that most teams peg him as an average starter or good bench player. I had it in my head that several teams thought he had 3-4 WAR potential and the bidding would be around 50 million, but that obviously isn't the case. He took half of that amount to be a super sub in San Diego.
  24. I don't like the return for the Cubs. Davies did show some improvements in 2020, but you still only get him for one year and it's doubtful that any of these prospects even see the major leagues for 3 or 4 years, if at all. I don't really get the plan here. For us, it's guys like CJ Van Eyk and Estevien Machado. We probably weren't interested in taking on Darvish's salary, which is fair.
  25. Now the rumoured trade for Darvish and Caratini does not contain Luis Campusano or Jake Cronenworth. Did they get him for a guy like Ryan Weathers or did they include CJ Abrams? The former would upset me a bit if we weren't involved.
