  1. The Cubs beat the Phillies 26-23 in 1922.
  2. Bo could be back this weekend, so not really.
  3. The whole point of saying anything about Cito is to get a 2000 word response from Olerud. Don't ruin it for everyone.
  4. "Here is what I know about Gaston—every former player who played for him in Toronto in the '90s raves about him. They can’t stop talking about what a great manager he was."
  5. I've never heard players that loved playing for a manager as much as Cito. Every interview they go out of their way to say good things. A lot of that was winning, but a lot of it is the atmosphere that the manager sets as well. I'm getting a bit of the same vibe from Montoyo. If the strategy lags a bit, but we still win, then so be it. Now I'll just wait for Olerud to spend his entire day digging up an old interview where a player says something negative.
  6. Delete the posts and move on. There was lots of baseball discussion going on. The board is already dead enough without locking up the day's most popular thread.
  7. Keeping players happy and performing well has always been the most important thing. You'd like that kind of manager to also be a master tactitian, but it isn't always possible. We had it with Gibby to an extent, but I'll give Montoyo a chance to adapt. I can already see better decisions.
  8. Not sure why the mods feel the need to stifle discussion in GDTs, but great game tonight. We were pretty lucky with Walker's tightrope act, but the bullpen continues to step up. Hopefully Rowdy is alright, we can only take so many hits to the lineup.
  9. I enjoy the failures of our rivals. I loved seeing the Yankees fail tonight as well. Besides that, when a team is the worst in the history of baseball by a lot, it's just worth noting no matter what team it is.
  10. Crazy stat: Boston has given up 266 runs, while Cleveland has given up only 116 in almost the same number of games. The Dodgers and Indians have given up fewer than 266 runs combined. The average hitter against 2020 Boston pitching is putting up a slash line very close to that of Ken Griffey Jr's career.
  11. Someone who had even less success than Bickford.
  12. The baserunning errors are more obvious, but the performance of our hitters in game 2 was as bad as anything we have seen this year. That was some good hittin' as Josh Donaldson would say. We didn't capitalize on a plethora of bad pitches in the middle of the plate and hitters counts.
  13. Sean Reid-Foley has been added to the roster for the first game of the double header. Probably a smart move.
  14. That's with 36 home runs too. A pretty impressive feat.
  15. The red sux broadcast made a point of saying how slow Hatch is at least 3 times tonight.
  16. He'd be a great guy to throw on the taxi squad if he is willing. You can't have too many solid vets around in the event of a Covid outbreak.
  17. Just for fun, here is our optimized lineup using ZIPS rest of season projections. Biggio Guerrero Shaw Hernandez Gurriel Grichuk Tellez Jansen Villar https://www.baseballmusings.com/cgi-bin/LineupAnalysis.py?Player0=Danny+Jansen&OBA0=.308&Slug0=.341&Player1=Rowdy+Tellez&OBA1=.310&Slug1=.469&Player2=Cavan+Biggio&OBA2=.343&Slug2=.408&Player3=Travis+Shaw&OBA3=.321&Slug3=.415&Player4=Jonathan+Villar&OBA4=.325&Slug4=.402&Player5=Teoscar+Hernandez&OBA5=.321&Slug5=.520&Player6=Randal+Grichuk&OBA6=.300&Slug6=.499&Player7=Lourdes+Gurriel+Jr.&OBA7=.310&Slug7=.452&Player8=Vladimir+Guerrero+Jr.&OBA8=.344&Slug8=.482&Model=0
  18. Did no one else think this was just a joke?
  19. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/cranking-out-the-post-trade-deadline-zips/
  20. Villar is fitting right in with the 2020 Blue Jays and the Montoyo style.
  21. Watch this for a good breakdown of the situation. It was probably intentional.
  22. That MiLB proposal is a power grab of enormous proportions by Manfred. I'm really curious to follow the negotiations.
  23. He doesn't explicitly say that, but I wouldn't be surprised if you are right. I've always believed that GMs place less value on low level pitching prospects than the public rankings would suggest.
  24. Ross Atkins makes it pretty clear in this interview that Kendall Williams was not one of their top 15 prospects and none of the other traded players were either. https://www.sportsnet.ca/590/tim-and-sid/ross-atkins-sees-opportunities-help-new-blue-jays-coming-team/
  25. Ray sure looked good tonight. He's a little wild, but you wouldn't know he was having serious command issues. I hope we see more of that going forward.
