  1. Kind of related - Stroman will be a super two player specifically because he was used in relief for a couple of useless weeks in May 2014. I'm sure the new regime will be a lot more concerned about service time manipulation in general.
  2. Of course he has more trade value. Nobody would disagree. Probably only if they flip Miller this offseason. Otherwise, they could have gotten better long term assets a year ago.
  3. Not really. It's just hard to see why Shelby Miller should be expected to continue to outperform his mediocre peripherals. I see nothing unique or potentially unique in his skillset. Maybe something's there, but there's no reason to assume there is. The fact that he used to be a top prospect has literally zero bearing on his ERA-DIPS differential. Sure he could improve, but anybody could improve...
  4. Sure, but he sucked at it. He would churn through a bunch of backend guys and never really give them a chance. Ex., Jeffress became a stud like as soon as Toronto got rid of him. Same with Chavez. There are other names littered in the recent bullpen history of the Jays that should have been given more of a chance. Coello, Colt Hynes, Dyson, Wagner, maybe Rasmussen The only buy-low or bounce back RP type that I can think of that worked out in AA's entire tenure is Hendricks... maybe Delabar was a buy-low? More of a fair deal. He bought on guys with Saves experience like Hawkins, CoCo, Francisco, Santos, Lyon. He overpaid for guys with good scouting grades, like Esmil Rogers and Brad Lincoln. He brought SP prospects up from A ball out of desperation to fill bullpen needs. I really don't think AA was too good at playing the reliever game. Smart teams like Tampa turn free again bargains into shut down relievers on the regular, man. Like, yearly.
  5. Perfect! I love this front office
  6. WHAT HAPPENED TO BoB!? He's a clown now. (that was last year, obvs)
  7. ok so apparently Bob Nightengale is a joke now
  8. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/giants-gm-bobby-evans-on-the-value-of-flexibility/ good article on the value of having roster flexibility talks about Giants decisions on Aoki and Petit relevant for Blue Jays past decisions on Smoak and Revere, also Chavez to an extent.
  9. Shelby Miller: A) the most overrated pitcher in baseball the most overrated player in baseball pick! (no other options exist)
  10. Stroman isn't a f***ing franchise player. See: Josh Donaldson
  11. wow, Bob Nightengale says Zobrist has 4/$80 on the table. Fangraphs crowd thought 3/$42
  12. I think the shoulder injury thing is more substantial than North American fans realize. Word out of Japan is that at one point people weren't even sure if Iwakuma's career was over.
  13. Nope. "Most alarming was the finding that a pitcher who regularly pitched with his arm fatigued was 36 times as likely to be in the surgery group (odds ratio = 36.18)" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3435945/
  14. True, BTS loves massive 4.6BB/9 walk rates
  15. Seriously, how the hell is Gagne not at the top of Betances' "similarity scores" on BR?
  16. I haven't had any Betances discussions! Ask BTS. I was thinking about offering Gordon but wasn't sure. I figured I'd ask the experts. Unfortunately, none of them have responded...
  17. Reliever abuse typically comes from pitching on back to back days, getting hot multiple times in a game, etc. Stuff like that that impedes the body's recovery process after the stress of pitching. So it's not wholly relevant that he's pitched a lot of innings before as a starter, a role in which usage is highly regulated and recovery is scheduled.
  18. Yeah, strictly from pitching 54 more innings with a lower K rate. I think Betances' usage has to raise significant concerns. He's used and abused like essentially no other RP in baseball.
  19. Yes, but it is nigh impossible to find breakout relievers on the cheap
  20. Yes, but that was mostly because of my misperceptions of Eaton. I had him pegged as a guy with zero HR power and marginal SB ability, based on 2014. I didn't expect him to go 14/18 this year. So, talent evaluation cookie for you. I just wrongly thought Eaton sucked.
  21. I no longer trust their lists and opinions. Still wildly useful for raw scouting data though. The eyewitness reports are great.
