I think most people would term that the class of 2019, not 2018 (this is the 2016 offseason right now). A lot those players will either extend and not reach free agency or decline and not be a big deal three years from now. It's just so early to look at it. Some of the names he lists even suck right now, lol. Gattis and Happ? Mauer? Carter Capps will probably be retired in three years. Nelson Cruz will be 38! He will be total garbage. I will grant that the top end is massive and some of them seem to have a very strong chance of reaching FA. Harper, Donaldson, Cutch, Machado, Heyward, Kershaw, Fernandez, Sale could all be seen to have a better than average chance of still being elite and not extending with their current team, for one reason or another.

I don't see how they can justify demoting Hammel or Hendricks to a role outside of the MLB rotation. Both are established above average starters. If they trade for another top of the rotation arm, they'll probably include a guy like Hendricks in that deal.

Two opt outs!!!! There are TWO opt outs in the contract!!! This changes everything. The value of the opt outs probably puts the "theoretical" value of the contact well up over $200M.

Promising new prospecting website: http://2080baseball.com/ Run by Joe Hamrahi (former BP president) Scouting staff includes a lot of familiar names: Tucker Blair, Mauricio Rubio, Chris Rodriguez, Jeff Moore, John Arguello, Nick Faleris (others I think). IMO this place SHOULD instantly shoot to the top of all public sector prospecting outlets. There are a lot of smart people involved there.

Ha, I was just about to say that the only things that make sense would be big trades for legit Aces like Carrasco or Fernandez. I wonder if they would be willing to dangle Schwarber. They could probably get Marcell Ozuna thrown in too, which would be a coup since he might be better than Soler.

If they bring in an established SP without moving any, Cahill will probably want to void his contract for misrepresentation, since they told him he would be competing for a spot. Arguably the Cubs have the best pitching staff in baseball already...

This is kind of bizarre. They already have a strong top 5 + Warren and Cahill. I suppose they could option Hendricks, but that seems like a waste after his sublime 260 career innings to date. Maybe they include him in any trade.

Soler in RF, Heyward in CF. Coghlan will platoon with Soler, replace Schwarber defensively, backup all 3 spots.

Normal people? A) do we seem like normal people normal people use and keep up to date with modern acronyms, man. Using and creating three letter acronyms is basically a sport in itself, within the sport of baseball. Also, even if you wrote "three true outcomes" instead of TTO or "times through the order penalty" instead of TTOP, the casuals would still be just as clueless.
