  1. The book isn't quite closed on Jay Bruce, guys. His ISO and K% were both at career norms last year. His GB% was back to normal (was way up in 2014). His hard hit % was back to normal (was down in 2014). It's entirely possible that he largely got BABIP'd last year (.251) and his true demonstrated talent equated to that of a comfortably above average hitter. It's not like he's dead. Still only 28.

  3. I like Jay Bruce and I think his hat from yesterday is cool http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/69972428/v543939483/jay-bruce-arrives-at-camp-discusses-trade-rumors/?query=Jay%2BBruce I also went to a Reds game in Cincinnati once and sat in his seats. So there's that.
  4. Of course recent seasons should mean more. Use your common sense, Olerud.
  5. Yeah they could just think Bruce is fixable / has been unlucky or something. Even if payroll goes up by ~$5M, if they think Bruce should be better than Saunders then fine. But $10M isn't insignificant. Curious. Most curious.
  6. If it's just Saunders out, Bruce in, how much money needs to be eaten for it to even be defensible? Desirable? Is there even a $ amount shy of $10M where we should prefer Bruce to Saunders? I don't think so.
  7. Have to sneak a guy like Tropeano or Cingrani into it somehow. Saunders for Bruce makes less than no sense.
  8. the stove is HOT jay bruce is NOT
  9. There is honestly nothing wrong with employing Jose and EE for 2016, taking another run at the ship, and then qualifying them and watching them become Red Sox. It would be fine. Most of us would survive.
  10. What he meant to say is that basic talk about MLB team revenues and payrolls with Rogers and the Blue Jays makes no sense because of their unique ownership situation. "It's really unfair to talk about revenue, payroll and all of that stuff to me, because I know that for this organization those types of normal considerations and constraints are non-existent"
  11. Holy f*** Jose Bautista the accountant pulls Rogers' pants down so everyone can see the sneaky hidden money in their tightey whiteys. Toronto Blue Jays Jose Bautista's days are numbered

Should trade Riemer/Reimer. the NHL is so dumb was it Paul Gaustad that got traded for a 1st rounder a few years ago?
  16. He had his worst offensive season since 2008, so all things considered maybe the worst season of his career in terms of production. In Blue, he never once looked like the real Troy Tulowitzki.

I can't believe any team even wants players like Matthias and Spaling
  18. It's not just the leg kick, his entire swing is different. Copying Donaldson. Do the Blue Jays pay Tewksbary a salary at this point?
  19. I wouldn't say it's that high. To keep him they probably have to waive someone else like Delabar. I know Delabar is s***. Really they should option both Hutch and Sanchez to start the year (assuming everyone is healthy) simply because they'll have reasonable excuses to. Chavez or Floyd in rotation. Schultz and Tepera should be in AAA. Biagini makes the team and at least gets a look. I'm most excited to see Blake McFarland and Ben Rowen. And of course Venditte. Aardsma is probably garbage.
  20. Just forget about the waiver period this year. I forgot to do it cuz was ok vaca. Add away
  21. You're supposing that a manger's decision to pull the SP will hang on 2 or 3 extra pitches to a s***** hitter? Kind of hard to believe. I guess the real example might be - mid to late inning, 2 out and none on, Derek Jeter at the plate, pitcher closing in on 100 pitches. Jeter has the ability to foul off a lot of pitches. 10+ pitch at bats are possible here, which might bring the SP up to ~105 and maybe out of the game. Do you tell him specifically to NOT battle? You could tell him to take three massive HR swings or try to bunt for a single on the first pitch, I guess.
  22. Having your hitters focus on any game plan bigger than their current PA is probably a bad idea.
  23. Full text on the unilateral clock shrinking rule that was implemented mid-draft: Text on unilateral rule changes made by me (they are still democratic, just in a backwards fashion): Also, I re-wrote a section of the rules on waiver pick trading during the draft and excess assets during the waiver draft (there was some confusion on whether trades need equal parts during the waiver draft. We will move away from that guideline going forward):
