  1. Sad but perfectly valid comparison. Pillar is probably better than Grichuk, all things considered. Bad contract!
  2. Grichuk f***ing sucks. I mean, he's a league average player at best and he just is what he is. It was and is so cringey to see Buck and Tabby lick his glutes every time he awkwardly / accidentally punches a ball 80 mph to right field, beating the shift for a single. Yeah right, he's worked so hard and changed his whole approach!
  3. Stripling is one of the veterans. He is the clubhouse. And he held himself accountable apparently
  4. I don't think it's a big overpay. Turner is pretty old but Gorman is just a good prospect
  5. When Springer comes back the offense is going to be insane. It will win them so many games on its own. Stripling will be 10-0 in the second half
  6. No, they have been very unlucky in the win column. They probably deserve 3 or 4 more wins based on run diff
  7. Go to the pen - f***ed. Leave the SP in - f***ed. Chuckles can't win
  8. ???? Panik actually needed to show LESS intensity on they play. He needed to relaxxxxx
  9. "The actual dudes who play the game who are clearly the ones who understand the impact the most" On balance the hitters will approve of these changes. It was like two days ago that Donaldson was almost exasperated about the problem.
  10. If someone posts a moronic baseball opinion then you can call them a moron. We have a long and proud history of this. And yes, the mods all get special treatment. Other than Deadpool. He's on thin ice.
  11. Alright, so you're a f***ing moron. Moving on...
  12. Bullpen reinforcements ARE on the way. Just a matter of time. Hatch and Murphy are currently rehabbing Bergen, Borucki, Cole, and Merryweather are on the IL but not out for the season (yet...) Pearson may become a pen option at some point But don't expect some random AAA guys like Hobie Harris or Bryan Baker to come up and make any difference.
  13. I can see this argument and at first my thoughts were that the obvious solution was to have one MLB sanctioned foreign substance that is allowed. Players can use MLB brand sunscreen but nothing else. But on the enforcement side something like that may not be workable. Cheaters would probably just formulate Sun-Tack, the spider tack that looks and smells like sunscreen! Then umps and officials can't really enforce the rule without, like, lab testing whatever the icky stuff is. I wouldn't be shocked to see something get approved in the next CBA though. Maybe it's a tube of MLB brand sun screen that is sealed at the start of the game and never leaves the playing field - sits there beside the rosin bag.
  14. On the season: By WAR - 19th By ERA - 10th By K rate - 14th By average velocity - 17th Since May 15th By WAR - 28th (minus 0.5!) By ERA - 24th By K rate - 13th By average velocity - 9th
  15. Toronto should graduate to a more dynamic way of thinking about roster construction, anyway. Smith can be like generic Tampa Bay rays player #1245. If he keeps hitting he'll get his chance to carve out a bench role, then a platoon role if he keeps it up, then perhaps even what is more or less a starting position player role. Most of those guys can co-exist on the same future roster. Players will always fail or get hurt, traded. Prospects are precious flowers to cultivate and let blossom, but they are also just ammunition to use and deplete.
  16. Hitters play the game too
  17. It's a tricky rule to enforce, Jim. Everyone has trace amounts of pine tar on their equipment Reasonably players have sunscreen and lotions on their bodies Do fans want to watch umpires patting down players every game? There was no evidence that foreign substances were actually creating vicious pitching weapons until rather recently There was little evidence that batters even cared until fairly recently It only became a large PR issue recently, with the extreme dip in offense and some of the reported stories (Angels clubhouse guy, etc.)
  18. lmao okay Jim the rule against foreign substances his existed forever they have enforced it historically they tried more passive enforcement measures this year and pitchers ignored them (MLB officials are saying this in the articles)
  19. Dude launched a f***ing clothing brand right when he got called up: https://shop.kelenic.com/ lmao
  20. Not on the 40. Maybe some asset hoarding going on, waiting for value trade(s) to materialize. They have an obvious sell high on their roster in Joey Wendle and it feels like Yandy Diaz could be given up on at this point (traded, not cut; breakout never going to happen). Vidal Brujan might come up before Franco.
  21. Some part of me takes joy in seeing elite prospects from other teams come up and suck. Am I a bad guy?
  22. Is Yelich past his prime already? Maybe...
  23. "I'm choking the s*** out of my pitches" Sounds like Glasnow doubled down on the stupid and was trying to retain some of his lost spin by gripping the ball harder? That's on him, not MLB. Nobody said he had to compensate for the lack of tack by squeezing harder
