  1. I understand the slight preference for Bellinger based on demonstrated upside but both are young guys packed with tools, former elite prospects, who have performed at a high level. And one looks broken now while the other is turning into a pretty solid hitter. I don't see a big gap.
  2. Deleted two posts that had nothing to do with baseball, per the Board Rules. Leaving Nexii's post as the final word. It also has little/nothing to do with baseball but makes an important point. Regardless of your personal opinion on trans stuff, or your personal opinion on someone as deplorable and consistently wrong as Sheryl Ring, intentionally misgendering a trans person is a violation of our board rules, particularly rule #2, "No discriminatory comments or slurs". If calling Sheryl Ring she/her is insufferable to you but you MUST talk about her, just don't use pronouns or use gender neutral pronouns. This is the official BJMB stance on this topic.
  3. let the other people answer, jim
  4. He seems broken. Bellinger or Moncada in dynasty?
  5. What happened to Chris Paddack?
  6. I remember this. It was a bunch of cryptic twitter posts about "what he did to her" and stuff like that. Then we figured out she was talking about him based on past tweets (she was already part of Jays fan twitter) and someone posted the tweets here. Shortly after that she made some tweet like "I've been found! f***!" and she deleted her account.
  7. Toronto is just going to non-tender an injured Julian Merryweather within the next two seasons and it will be a very sad day.

So you legitimately think it's believable/reasonable that Kucherov was told by the team that they were not going to activate him for weeks/months despite him being completely healthy, and he just went along with it? Like, he was cleared by doctors to play games and the team told him mmmm nah we will activate you in 6 weeks or whatever and he just said sure?
  9. Kind of surprising that they even signed him.

He had f***ing hip surgery in December!!! He was probably "skating" like my grandma for the first few weeks. I don't understand the Stamkos point. Didn't Kucherov not play a single regular season game? Really, I think TB just "benefitted" from the timing of the injuries as far as the cap s*** goes. I actually would not care either way if there is a rule change. If the NHL wants to have the salary cap apply to the playoffs, that's fine. What I find disagreeable is that idea that Nikita Kucherov would willingly not play games for any extended period of time, if he was completely healthy. I don't think professional athletes think like that. Maybe he'd understand if the team said, hey sit out these last couple of games so we can squeeze the cap, but anything longer than that? The guy is chasing personal accomplishments and points totals, trying to climb up the career leaderboards and become a hall of famer, etc.

Man, people are literally saying that Kucherov agreed to stay on LTIR for additional weeks/months to help them circumvent the cap. That's a conspiracy theory. There's no other way to describe it.

I agree that the salary cap is horrible. I f***ing hate it in hockey. For some reason it seems to not be as bad in basketball...

It's what the fans want to see, mate. They want to see $11M in hockey talent sitting in the press box as soon as Connor returns. They demand it
  14. I am prepared to blame the offense more than anything for last night. Spenser Watkins should have been pounded back to the minor leagues with the stuff he was offering but the Blue Jays took an awful lot of unprofessional hacks trying to end his career in one swing and they paid for it.

How about we call it none of those things and label it appropriately: A non-issue that is becoming a borderline conspiracy theory due to the degenerative effects of social media.
  16. I can't really understand hating on Montoyo for using Thornton. - Matz seems to be building up stamina again right now so it was reasonable to remove him after 68 pitches. Last outing he only threw 48. - Thornton has not been a complete/obvious disaster this year. HR rate is very high but the K and BB rates look fine. Big difference between his FIP and xFIP. He was a competent starter in 2019 so it is very reasonable for the organization to think that he will settle in as an above average middle relief option once the noise settles down. - Thornton is literally on the team to take the ball in situations like this when the starter can't go deep. It was the fifth inning. Toronto doesn't have 5 high leverage relievers to ride to the end of the game, even if they went to your favourite decent reliever in inning 5 they would have been hoping for clean innings from a couple of s***** arms later on. It had to be either Thornton or Anthony Kay to keep it close. There Kay's ERA was higher than Thornton's entering the game last night. The pen is weak but that's not Charlie's fault. stfu!
  17. Boston has ONE reliever on the IL right now. They have been so remarkably lucky this season, it's really incredible.
  18. Jake Arrieta really shouldn't be in the majors anymore. We are reaching a level of late career sadness almost as bad as Felix Hernandez. Much better to just get hurt and then never get a job again, like Cole Hamels
  19. Kay + Thornton piggyback, or something like that.
  20. why would the Toronto Blue Jays sign Sheryl Ring?
  21. Even for teams with $$$, the 40 man crunch is real.
  22. Recent history would say don't expect them to be tendered all the way through arb. I know 2021 was an aberration of a year but look at some of the relievers non-tendered: https://www.mlb.com/news/list-of-non-tendered-free-agents-2020-21
