    Atkins always just says "run prevention" because he doesn't want to commit to acquiring specific things and wants to be open to bringing in starters, relievers, or defensive upgrades. I mean you can't deny that he upgraded their run prevention. Unless you think Chatwood > Soria?

    Canario is a 45 FV prospect. Fangraphs said there were only 23 45 FV or better prospects in the 2021 draft. So yeah, Canario is better than a comp round pick. He's also not really struggling this year. He's treading water. The overall slashline is average but he's showing some power and speed without striking out at an egregious clip. And the Cubs for a second piece for Bryant. Caleb Kilian has really good numbers. The Rockies also have a dogshit draft record recently so it's not like the GM can lean on a great drafting and developing org. They are one of the worst. Almost all of their top few rounds picks in recent years suck or are just bit players.

    Story would project better ROS, easily. It's not like his peripherals are alarming. Probably just not motivated because he plays for a trash org. It's a given that some team was offering something for Story equal to what we saw move for these other veteran bats

    It's hard / impossible to prompt trading down one spot at that point in the draft without showing your hand and looking stupid. As soon as you call the other GM they know there is a decent chance you aren't thinking of taking the consensus guy. I bet you kind of just need to hope they contact you about trading up first

    Nick Johnson, but lack of longevity means we can't consider him as good as the others. What Votto is doing this year is so impressive. He has changed his approach at the plate significantly at 37 years old.

    He replaced Joe Panik, so he actually will move the needle a bit. Dickerson could be surprisingly good. He's a really cool hitter. When healthy he has pop and very solid bat to ball skills, albeit a very aggressive approach. Young Corey Dickerson had a hitting profile very much like Bo Bichette's. That's not even an exaggeration.

    What do you mean? Cimber Hand Soria Richards Berrios Dickerson SIX viable MLB players brought in. They range from minor upgrades to significant improvements. There really aren't any holes left on the roster. You could quibble about Biggio, or outfield defense, or a lockdown reliever, but the front office really did an admirable job improving the squad. A lot of work and a lot of trades.

    Spencer Howard ++ for Gibson and Kennedy is insane. PCA for Baez is stupid. Martin + SWR for Berrios is bonkers. Madrigal + Hueueeueueueuer for Kimbrel is batshit. All of a sudden MLB organizations don't want to covet prospects. This is a wild and historic about-face. Two or three years ago you could not have pried a player like Martin or Madrigal or PCA or Howard out of a GM's hands if you had a gun to his head.

    If the Colorado Rockies choose to trade nobody in THIS TRADE MARKET it will be one of the stupidest organizational decisions ever. One phone call to Toronto and they could have had Martin, SWR, and a nice third piece for German Marquez.
