  1. Biggio only has a few years of control left so Tigers prob not into him. TBH I like each of Maton and Vierling and the prospect a little bit. Not sure Toronto has that package unless Tigers really love guys like Lopez/Horwitz/Jimenez/Pop/Juenger or unless Toronto gives up some uncomfortable prospect to lose like Barger, Orelvis, Robberse, Macko...
  2. The tldr is that spin rates are back up near where they were before the crackdown Seems like pitchers are using something clear and not very sticky that wipes off easily. Hiding it in their hair etc. very hard for umps to notice even if they touch it because it’s not coloured or sticky to the touch
  3. Everyone will agree that an Ace has to have these characteristics: - skill - durability / reliability At points in 2018 to 2020 Bauer pitched "like an Ace" but if someone only qualifies within a brief time period then they are really only satisfying one half of the test. So, no Ace for me. Never was one. Would you call late 30s Charlie Morton an Ace? How about Luis Severino? Carlos Carrasco? fWAR tells the whole story IMO, for Bauer 2012 to 2015 = below average 2016 to 2017 = above average 2018 = pitches "like an Ace" for 175 innings 2019 = above average 2020 = pitches "like an Ace" for 73 innings 2021 = above average
  4. pitchers have new stuff at this point https://theathletic.com/3591261/2022/09/14/spin-rates-rise-sticky-stuff/
  5. I think the way it works is whatever a team pays him, the Dodgers don’t have to pay him. So there is no reason for anyone to offer him more than the minimum. It’s not extra money for him. But that may be false and I’m not sure about say bonuses
  6. I don’t hate that Soto trade for Detroit. He’s utterly replaceable. They got three 40 FV prospects or young MLB players. Depth it always a problem for the Tigers.
  7. Yeah I agree I think this is why nobody traded for him. The teams want to get him to agree to a bunch of non baseball terms
  8. Hutch is a weird one, his velo looks the same as when he broke into the league. It's like he just declined in other ways. He f***ing sucks though. Stuff+ 4 seamer = 74 change = 82 sinker = 65 slider = 101 pairs the slider with good command+, making it really his only trick. hopefully we never see him.
  9. Perhaps the teams who may sign him want to negotiate directly with him for non monetary reasons
  10. Heck the online poll might skew too liberal. Like election polls
  11. Trevor Bauers hot agent probably paid a warehouse of Chinese preteens to spam the poll
  12. I bet it’s no big deal for most after the shock of the first couple events Most of them make a permanent home in Florida or Texas or Arizona anyway and they live out of a rental or hotel all season It’s not like going between say Buffalo and Toronto all year is much more fun
  13. No, it would be really stupid. He's trying to establish himself as a major league starting pitcher. The upshot of accomplishing that is tens of millions of dollars. I don't think most MLB teams have spare millions to do this anyway. They run pretty tight on their budgets. Sure, the huge market teams would do it.
  14. You can do that sort of it just works differently Like you can try to send them down and it’s up to the player to accept or refuse the assignment I don’t know the exact mechanics but the player basically gets a choice, in context. I think that’s good. A guy like Diaz would likely not even sign a two way deal because he wants to play in the big leagues Very few fringe guys are at the stage of their career where they would admit they are a AAAA player. Only the oldest veterans like Casey Lawrence for example
  15. It’s good for the player because theoretically the team he ends up with has an MLB roster spot for him
  16. Nobody is really trading for relievers right before our draft

    but they suck?
  18. He's in the same bucket as Merryweather. No options, probably only breaking camp with Toronto if a couple guys are hurt. No Options club at the back of the roster: Merryweather, Fernandez, White, Richards. Only 2 spots for these four dudes.

The Habs need and deserve him more than any of these other s***** teams, lol. Toews and Kane f***ing suck now. Hopefully no stupid GM overpays for them. f*** the Blackhawks.
  20. Yeah, I think so. The pros and cons kind of cancel out. Devers better defensive value, Vlad better projected bat. Similar total package upside between them. Both kind of fall in the same bucket as "good hitting young fatties", Devers probably not being thought of as a 3B in his 30s at all. Devers was set the reach FA before what would be his age 27 season. Vlad on track for the same FA timeline. They bought 10 of his FA years. Vlad being 3 years away from FA means it should cost a bit less to do a similar thing for him. More risk in buying out 10 FA years when those don't even begin for 3 seasons.
  21. I think Miley is mince meat if you look at his 2022 injuries - neck strain end of 2021, and was delayed to start 2022 - elbow inflammation April, DL - shoulder strain May, DL - shoulder strain June, DL - shoulder injury setback while on DL in August - oblique issue September, avoided DL but didn't start like... this guy is f***ed right
  22. career 4.13 ERA 4.10 FIP 4.06 xFIP
  23. Tons of decent guys I could trade Profar Pham Blackmon Laureano Merrifield Renfroe Daniel Lynch Dean Kremer Kyle Hendricks Bryan De La Cruz JJ Bleday Brandon Hughes (penciled in as Cubs closer) Dylan Floro (penciled in as Marlins closer) Could trade one of Sal Perez or Logan O'Hoppe too I guess. But leaning towards keeping both into 2023. Waino, Taillon, Stroman, Bradish are also in the willing to discuss category. Remain willing to discuss one of Machado or Jose Ramirez as well, in a blockbuster. Many (not all) of the above names could be had for picks, pick upgrades, or prospect upgrades. The main roster thing I would want is a good 2B.
