  1. Well, yeah. Everyone legitimately thought he was going to be a superstar. Like if Ryan Braun was a plus 3B and stuck there. Good lord Lawrie's 2011 was monstrous. 163 wRC+ in AAA at 21 years old then a 157 wRC+ in the majors, all with contact and walks and a +13 UZR/150 at 3B in the majors. He looked like a 7 WAR player. For him to do THAT and then immediately become a mediocre fielding, slap hitting 2B was such a letdown. He played down to his physical talent floor because of makeup issues and a 75 IQ (if we are generous).
  2. Teoscar was a $21M talent getting paid $15M Toronto saves $12M or so and gets a reliever with surplus value in Swanson. But they probably AREN'T bringing in a $21M value OF on top of that. They don't have to though. Just need the aggregate to be better than the status quo.
  3. That was also when I got into baseball. I did not like baseball much until around that time. I don't have memories of Hentgen or Batista starting for Toronto, or Josh Phelps at all, so I don't think I watched much at all in 2004. I remember being marginally excited for Corey Koskie because he was Canadian, lol.

Classic Leafs fans. A couple of good weeks in the regular season and you feel bulletproof.
  5. I think we'll see something like it again. Maybe not quite 80+ IP and 50+ saves with how relievers are used now but just in the last ten years multiple guys (Edwin Diaz, Liam Hendriks, Craig Kimbrel, Devin Williams, Aroldis Chapman) have had comparable seasons in various ways. Like 2012 Kimbrel was insane. 0.78 FIP, 0.88 xFIP 2020 Devin Williams in the short season was nuts Diaz this year was insane. 2019 Hendriks was extremely good AND the A's let him throw 80+ innings.
  6. The letting go part - this is like Edwin leaving Toronto but the player is 2 years older. I just don't see how it would have made any sense to retain him. As good as Abreu has been for them he probably just has a couple more league average years and then is more or less done. And they've also got Eloy who is LF/DH, Vaughn who is a DH/1B, Grandal who probably needs some DH/1B time... some other fringe roster guys without defensive utility like Gavin Sheets. On Vaughn - could see a 2 WAR true talent come through if he doesn't have to play LF anymore. I don't think he'll ever be the big offensive player people thought but he was a f***ing -20 LF last year lol.
  7. I'd bet my testicles they sign or trade for one SP better than White+Kikuchi. I hope they add a second as well, making White+Kikuchi the ostensible 6 and 7... but not sure they will. Might end up just adding a swing-man or MiLB guys who are about as good as those two.
  8. well he was #2 in RP K rate in 2005 so you can compare him to someone like Edwin Diaz in 2022.
  9. should be close to that AAV maybe 3/$54 that would be my guess
  10. Yeah agree
  11. Yeah I know who he is. Bryan De La Cruz Scouting Report: TCA wants him.
  12. neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  13. Just to be fair and objective... you make a good point here. Teo was great in 2021 and 2020. Slipped back a bit in 2022 but in most months he was great in 2022.
  14. Duran 10% chance Senzel 3% chance All others are definitely ngmi Must admit I don’t know who De La Cruz even is though
  15. You don't have charisma you dumb f***ing fire hydrant you order wives from third world countries and they still f***ing leave you? real suave "wit" omfg the delusion u so funny!
  16. lmao ah yes, connorp the out of the box thinker
  17. Things an NPC would say at this point in the dialogue tree
  18. This poll is inversely related to their odds of signing in Toronto
  19. No, it happens all the time you're just a f***ing moron who doesn't pay attention and then talks by bending over and spreading his ass cheeks. s*** like Adam Frazier, 2021 All Star, being traded by the Padres this offseason for some nothing prospects because SDP wanted to save the projected arb salary and thought they could just put something better or more efficient out there at 2B. s*** like the Mets dumping Matz to the Blue Jays for three useless pitchers because they didn't want to pay him his arb3 salary. Did the Mets not want to compete in 2021? Of course they wanted to compete
  20. I swear to god you are an NPC Like, someone put you in this universe to just spit out the most inane and predictable lines. And you have no character development. Of course teams with money rarely trade stars for monetary reasons. You aren't saying something profound. Teoscar isn't really Aaron f***ing Judge though, is he? 4 WAR exactly once, ever. nearly a 30% K rate. No hustle, s*** defense. It's a pretty low bar for "star"
  21. "legit WS contenders don't trade star players because there's one year left on their deal" this isn't true, of course. every team makes salary conscious moves. even big budget teams. the dodgers just non-tendered an MVP from a few years ago. the red sox dumped A Gon, Crawford, Beckett one year before winning a World Series.
  22. And you ARE allowed to kick it in?
  23. That two year period 2017 and 2018 set them back a fair amount. Wasted money on Bautista, Morales. Botched the Donaldson thing. Made some bad trades like bringing in Grichuk, trading Edward Olivarez, screwed up the Happ return, lost Berti (useful player) for nothing, traded Urshela for nothing, in hindsight didn't get much for Osuna or Seung-hwan Oh or Aaron Loup... They did a couple good things like land Espinal and Teoscar and sign Gurriel but for the most part their execution and decision making sucked for two years. I guess to be fair it's almost to be expected when you take over an organization. Your systems and decision making channels will not be as fine tuned.
  24. Nice to know they game plan is to win.
  25. Gotta say, I really like almost everything about Alek Thomas. Except the groundballs lol
