There is the pre-30 segment where they collect WAR based on pure physical talent.
Then there is the 30-onward segment where they try to collect WAR with declining pure physical talent. So the ability to learn new skills, adapt, retain physical abilities, stay healthy, etc. matter so much.
Guys like Derek Jeter are only HOFers because they were good in the second leg.
Guys like Mookie can go from a HOFer to a legend by being good in the second leg...
