The Barnes - Siakam thing is interesting. In theory, if Siakam can turn it around the starting 5 is solid, given how Barnes is playing and how good Schroder looks. But can the team play in a way that makes Siakam and Scottie Barnes both very productive?

  3. I think it's a bird-in-the-hand thing. Green had good peripherals but iffy results. Stuff looked like it used to. I think the two team options were likely tough decisions. We've already seen some insight on the RP market. Dodgers declined $9.5M option on Joe Kelly. Braves paid Joe Jimenez 3/$26M and Pierce Johnson 2/$14.25M The Jays are pricing Green a bit above all of those guys but this is a player who was very close to the best RP in baseball from 2017 to 2021. One less offseason box to tick off.
  4. Closing this thread because I don't see why we need it There is an Around Baseball thread and a General Blue Jays Discussion thread
  5. Joc is essentially a DH too now
  6. Makes sense. Bit of a risk but worth the upside. 3 year option vs 2 year option - having the payroll flexibility in 2026 and no commitment to him then is probably a bit better than having the slightly lower AAV
  7. stfu, meathead
  8. So what is the criteria for the UTIL award? Is it being a good defender that happens to play a couple positions, or is it being a competent defender that can play a bizarre spread of positions? I still don't get what MLB is going for with it. Daulton Varsho was 8th in the AL in Fangraphs defensive value and #1 among qualified outfielders. He seems to be exactly the type of overseen player that the UTIL gold glove was supposed to find and reward.
  9. It's funny that LF/CF players don't get nominated for the utility category Like, is there that much difference between that and being a 3B/SS or whatever
  10. Good for Toronto he didn't win Chip on his shoulder now + arb cost ticks down
  11. Rodríguez has intriguing stuff: ~95 mph FF w/ cut action similar to Andre Pallante's FF, which generates tons of ground balls ~83 mph high-spin sweeper w/ solid depth & sweep (127 Stuff+ in WBC via @enosarris) Rodríguez worked as RP in NPB, but may be viewed as SP by MLB teams (Pasted from twitter)
  12. So Steamer says the obvious. The returning players should be fine but the team needs 3B LF and DH filled. It would be weak sauce to go into the year with Biggio being part of a platoon solution anywhere.
  13. Kinda want them to decline the 3 year and hope he takes the player option but if he doesn't they just pick up the 2 year. The next two years is kind of "the window" anyway.
  14. Yeah it would be a CBA thing
  15. I feel like Joc Pederson might as well just sign with Toronto for $8M and get it over with. Why wait all offseason to do it? It's prophecy.
  16. Two would be even better!
  17. I do think they will kind of do the same thing this offseason that they did for KK and Belt. Just wait it out and see who is left and willing to take a tolerable 1 year deal. I would like them to get Hoskins on a pillow deal though. He could be a difference maker. A "big bat" like Christian Walker.
  18. I kind of agree that limiting the throws over is weird Not a big deal, but it's just kind of gimmicky when the pitcher runs out of throws. Leads to weird things like that Bassitt play.
  19. your range seems right

holy f*** i just looked up the details. dumb as f***.
  21. Man the FA class is gross. I checked the list and yes, Whit Merrifield coming off 1.5 fWAR is actually the best 2B on the market. Unless you love Donovan Solano or think Amed Rosario will bounce back. By 2023 WAR the best shortstop on the market is Elvis Andrus. And then of course the top 3B are Chapman and Candelario. 3B is stacked compared to the MIF! Belt and Carlos Santana are probably the top 1B. The top OF are all fringe-average guys like KK, Soler, Pham, Duvall, Gurriel. The only truly marquee free agents are Ohtani and a few SP. And I guess some closers. Like, some of these top FA bats are just guys who will sign in January on one year deals...
  22. How is "depth is good" food for thought? Nobody would disagree
  23. At some point they will need to change more rules. Nobody likes this brand of pitcher usage. Could be small things like... You can't option a pitcher for two days after they were last used. Could be weird things like... Once you remove your SP you can no longer ask for any video reviews. Or team level incentives for having traditional SP usage.
  24. Yeah, peak years become more important. Wheeler is putting together an elite peak right now with some playoff chops on top. Some guy like Pablo Lopez or Luis Castillo could do that
  25. You need to readjust your WAR barometer for hall of fame SP because teams simply don't let them accrue as much WAR now. 170 IP is the new 200 IP And it probably only gets worse
