  1. It's semantics but "generational" to me means just that - once in a generation. Maybe some career overlap with another unicorn. Mike Trout was a generational total package Ohtani is a generational talent You can argue that Pujols and Miggy were generational hit+power combinations. That's what people thought Vlad could be! It's not in there. Nope.
  2. You can tell from the contract that the Jays internal projections for IKF must be a bit higher than those on Fangraphs, but they don't have to be much higher. Atkins just got scared of the worst case Ontario at 3B and bought floor. Then got conned into giving the floor player a second year.
  3. I don't think we can really say this anymore. He's got elite physical tools, but it's not 80 hit 80 power like some people were dreaming about. Might be fringe 80 raw power (there are some guys who can hit higher maxEVs or avgEVs...) but the hit tool is clearly lower. Probably a 60? A true 70 hitter with pop does not get exploited like Vlad can get exploited. Mookie Betts doesn't have flaws and slumps like him.
  4. I lose sleep over this player 0 war, 0 war, 6 war, 3 war, 1 war + mostly bad anecdotes on top of the production, like horrible baserunning and pickoffs Why couldn't he have just been f***ing Pete Alonso? 3-4 WAR a year. Alonso has the same pop but at least two letter grades worse on the hit tool. Vlad would be a bitter hitter if he was a worse "hitter" and it is so f***ing annoying lmao.
  5. This the goof that messed with a bunch of gullible fans and heavily implied that a Soler signing was imminent?
  6. Always some spring injuries. He makes the team unless his stuff looks like s*** in spring
  7. Ross Stripling arc incoming
  8. No kidding. Wow. Although, it's the Ms so maybe Santos is the best reliever in baseball now
  9. Weird that his injury was not known Dude is getting put on top 100 lists meanwhile he had major career threatening surgery five months ago
  10. I don't think this info is accurate There was amateur data where his maxEVs were promising. I remember reading 110 mph at the time of the draft
  11. He's GOOD. Part of why the farm is rated a bit too low right is that a couple of the good prospects aren't scouting darlings. Roden, Schneider (graduated but you get it), Horwitz... Horwitz has a 2 WAR projection per full season by Steamer and ZIPS and everyone has a 40 FV on him. So the machine says 50 FV and the scouts have him a full tier below. I dunno. I like our prospects, Barry.
  12. I guess Toman and BB are the main culprits Toman sucks. BB gets a mulligan. I dunno. 2023 was a good year on the farm compared to 2022 IMO. Much better.
  13. It's okay, Kiley is kind of dumb (he's the new Keith Law) and that's not even bottom 5 so we technically do not have a bottom 5 farm anyway, even if it is per this dumbass
  14. lmao I think these are all the worthwhile prospects/young players they have dealt away since the point in 2019 when they started buying again Logan Allen Franmil Reyes Luis Urias Eric Lauer Xavier Edwards Taylor Trammell Ty France Andres Munoz Luis Torrens Jeisson Rosario Matt Brash Edward Olivares Josh Naylor Cal Quantrill Gabriel Arias Joey Cantillo Owen Miller Blake Hunt Cole Wilcox Luis Patino Francisco Mejia Owen Caissie David Bednar Jack Suwinski Mason Thompson River Ryan Esteury Ruiz Robert Gasser CJ Abrams Robert Hassell James Wood Mackenzie Gore Victor Acosta Jackson Wolf Ryan Weathers You will note that a fair number of these are good MLB players or very good prospects right now!
  15. Padres definitely had a great young foundation, they just f***ed it up somehow
  16. Who knows. Teams can spend big and f*** up. Look at the mess the Padres are/were in. Look at the last time the Orioles spent money (Chris Davis!)
  17. Could be something like this though: Family was hesitant to make big investments as they were tying to sell the team, and unsure if a buyer would want big long term commitments or a clean payroll. Then in the process of negotiating and striking this deal, maybe this buyer indicated that they would approve of some long term commitments and prospect trades to raise payroll and make the team better immediately.
  18. yeah but we have justin turner and a falaffle
  19. The Os getting good is fine because the Red Sox and Yankees suck now, right right
  20. Ortiz is a plug-and-play SS who might have some upside. Probably 2 WAR immediately, unless the scouts are wrong on his D, with the chance for more. Hall is immediately a back-end reliever with some chance still to be starter. The Jays really do not have a comparable package. Tiedemann on his own is probably close enough to the value of the package. Orelvis + Nimmala might be close but it wouldn't be what Milwaukee wanted for various reasons.
  21. welp, at least Baltimore is burning some prospect capital finally one year of Burnes...
  22. Uhhhh
  23. Wow wtf
