  1. I seem to remember one player from Japan or Korea who skipped domestic pro ball and somehow entered the MiLB system as a teenager. I forgot who it was though. I don't think they went to college. Oh, it was Hak-Ju Lee. I guess it's something some Korean players have done before, but probably no Japanese league players since their pro baseball system is so robust.
  2. Pitching was always the weakness But in the playoffs: - Eovaldi has been great (I think he was injured but I guess he found a way to pitch through it) - Montgomery has been super lucky (his playoff K and BB rates per9 are 4.94 and 1.45, lmao) - They have been very lucky to not get burned more often by the bullpen. Sporz, Gray, Bradford, Leclerc, and Chapman all have ERAs of 3.29 or less, but Gray is the only one with the DIPS to back it up; Sborz, Chapman, Leclerc, and Bradford all have significantly higher xFIPs and obviously mediocre or poor K and BB rates. They haven't really needed Scherzer or Heaney to be good. So yeah. Elite offense + one SP beasting (Eovaldi) + lots of luck with other pitchers = World Series.
  3. Honestly what do the DBacks even expect throwing out these scrubs relief arms There HAD to be a better way to map out this series than this in game 4

Raps are brutal. Siakam, OG, Trent Jr, Poeltl, Boucher have been non-existent. I don't know a lot about basketball but Barnes and Siakam have always seemed pretty incompatible to me. Like, they do the same things so it's awkward when they are both on the floor. One of them needs to be a better 3P shooter, basically.
  5. yeah and Boston even ate 50% of his salary as part of the deal really bad trade
  6. My guess for a Soto deal would be more like this: Soto + Cronenworth for Bag of players with marginal value and perhaps more name value than objective value. i.e., Tucker Toman + Cavan Biggio + Manuel Beltre + Yosver Zulueta I feel like SDP wants to dump salary and Cronenworth is close enough to being a good player that some GM might squint and think they can save him and make that contract a positive. Just using the Blue Jays players as an illustration. But the best kind of player is a prospect everyone knows who has seen their value plummet. So, SDP can pitch it as acquiring a "top prospect"
  7. Machado was also a boring return. Baltimore had to squeeze every f***ing drop out of Dean Kremer with their new player development gurus to make that worth it.
  8. Oh yeah Betts would definitely count That was a "boring" return even if the math says it was worth it for Boston (the math would be wrong, but whatever). Verdugo has settled in as a really boring, fringe-average player. Wong is just a backup C and Jeter Downs was/is nothing. Not a great comp for San Diego's side. It shows that people were not willing to part with an elite prospect for even Mookie Betts at final arb cost. And that was Mookie with a good chance of extension signing - Soto probably goes to FA.
  9. We have Rhys Hoskins already and he can play 2B. His name is Davis Schneider.
  10. Who are the last truly elite players to be traded with only one year of "expensive" control remaining? I think Machado was a deadline deal but I guess you could use that as a comparison.
  11. Texas is a cringe org with a lame ballpark and a soulless team Arizona has some of the worst uniforms in sports and they have a lamer team name than most preteen travel teams
  12. He's like Colby Rasmus but good
  13. go back to 154 games but let everyone do steroids again
  14. Vlad has value still, because teams view players in a probabilistic way Vlad may be coming off a 1 WAR season and his mean projection may be down to 2-3 WAR or so, but teams are still going to bake in the possibility that he can find his demonstrated ceiling again. His age also makes it more probable that he could do that than a player approaching or over 30.

  16. He's definitely been much more active in the last year or so Getting more indignant and opinionated with age Also probably giving up on ever getting laid again so he is just posting through it 20 hours a day
  17. connorp left when we added some rules to the message board and tried to limit political posting he came back like a year later, probably because he missed me and I am one of his best friends

They need to make helmets with built in kevlar neck guard sheathing, that tucks under the shoulder pads or even clips to them and ties down. Think this

Playing pro hockey with your neck and face exposed is insane. The visors they wear in the NHL do basically nothing too.
  20. Some of these things he is doing might be valid exercises for mobility or "explosiveness" or whatever but yeah it mostly looks like eyewash from rookie personal trainers who don't understand what they are doing.
  21. What a game 1!
  22. What a swing. Sewald didn't even miss by much, maybe three inches.
  23. The possible ten off days for the team that gets a bye would be problematic
