  1. Bizarre trade tonight. Padres drafted Blake Dickerson in 2023 and signed him for $500k. They just traded him to the a tigers for $500k in international pool money.
  2. Mets signing Luke Voit to a minor league deal Do they not know how bad that look is? How dare they. Pete Alonso is probably pissed
  3. Clearly they are "retooling" without rebuilding Soft rebuild, basically
  4. Vogelbach has offensive projections that are the same as Horwitz. Nobody should be "scared" of him making the team as the last man on the bench - the team would be almost identical as if he didn't make it. Even if it's a small chance. Panik was a different signing made in a very different context
  5. Do you have any sense of how any of this works? It's not like they sign these guys and then tell them "yeah bud you have almost no chance of making the team" Greg Bird was this player two years ago, he had a 2.000 OPS in spring and people were ordering jerseys, and he didn't even make the team
  6. Yeah I'd say you have a chance with a couple breakouts Need pitching though Bats look solid for a few years for sure
  7. I don't see it with Escobar, he was so bad and is so old. This is like Dexter Fowler in 2022. He might get some playing time in 2024 if he willing to go to Buffalo for a while. Vogelbach projects to be about the same as Horwitz so I guess he could be the final bench piece and get some PAs. Horwitz would be the fave though since he has the youth up arrow and a bit more defensive utility. I'm not even sure Vogelbach can do 1B anymore
  8. Horwitz vs Vogelbach is funny They are incredibly similar at the dish. Bit more power for Vogelbach but less hits.
  9. Both these guys are so cooked. Only way Vogelbach and Escobar get MLB time this year is probably a team level injury event. Food poisoning on March 27th. Mass hysteria in the clubhouse. A tragic group bicycle accident that is probably Alek Manoah's fault. Zombies.
  10. Some of you guys are too much Did you also get saddy sad when they signed Greg Bird and Dexter Fowler in 2022? Did you wake up at 3 am and pee your Toy Story jammies about the roster implications of those signings?
  11. Yeah when these shortstops turn 30 and move off the position it tends to be lights out There are actually very few 31+ year old full time SS in MLB at any given time, guys like Brandon Crawford playing SS at 34 are dinosaurs
  12. It seems like the justification right now is just that they want Kim at SS. Reading between those lines, the actual justification is probably multitudes: - Kim is a better SS right now - Kim has more trade value if he is picking it at short and looks great - Jackson Merrill's natural position is SS
  13. Padres are moving Bogaerts to 2B, one year into his contract What a horrible execution of... everything... by the Padres. I guess this lets them slide Jackson Merrill into the SS role without obstruction when he is ready. Kim being the SS in the short term may be a better alignment.
  14. Still has a little ponch but that's just genetics Now if Kirk shows up looking like less of a meatball, that'll be 3/3 on the fatty watch front
  15. What I heard on a podcast is that this new "internal brace" procedure for partial tears makes it easier for teams to try the recovery route. If he has traditional TJS today, he might not be in games again until June 2025 (16 months). But the internal brace thing tends to be much closer to an actual one year recovery. So he could try to rehab for the next 6 weeks and if it doesn't work, he could have internal brace TJS before April and still maybe be in games in April 2025.
  16. Someone go press Scott Mitchell on the Jorge Soler lies
  17. Man you probably should Roster looking long in the tooth
  18. Can't lose on a minor league deal but I see no light for Eduardo. I don't even think it's a case where he was hurt. He just sucked. Yes, he was productive in 2022 but it is rare to see a statcast page that is "dead blue" like his 2023 page lmao. His shtick from his good years seems to have been finding barrels despite having middling or even below average raw power. One of these trajectory dudes. Maybe he can teach some of the tweener bats in AAA how to yank more dingers.
  19. You don't typically get to pick your minor league signees You can have a preference list but for the most part if you find one veteran who thinks there is an opportunity and is willing to spend some time in Buffalo, you have to just sign 'em up. Player picks the team more than anything. I presume.
  20. His xwOBA last year was actually worse than his wOBA
  21. Hope so Don't see how he fits or makes sense otherwise
  22. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/02/blue-jays-nearing-agreement-with-eduardo-escobar.html
  23. careful man, dean knows things and there are several dean stans at this point
  24. But that was always true and the Ohtani stuff basically proves it There are only a few dorks like JimCanuk who think that Cody Bellinger is "the right player" though Everyone realizes that even if Chapman is available on a pillow they probably dump a bit of payroll in the process, somehow
