    I feel like the decision was made when they signed Falaffle The Turner signing did take up the most budget but it's a pure offense signing Falaffle just doesn't make sense for this team at his price if he's going to be a utility player. The cost says he's the primary 3B.

    Most of it can be explained by the developmental system being bad. Symptoms of the same problem. When you aren't confident on your internal depth you can't really wait out free agency. That being said, most teams misread the off-season. When the dust settles there will be a handful that read it right and profited. Cubs are one, Giants are two I guess. We will see who gets Snell for $25M.

    Yeah not even I can defend this Atkins off-season is like when you play an auction draft in exactly the wrong way. 1. Try to get the elite players but just miss 2. Correctly don't react and overpay for the second tier guys 3. BUT completely panic that you'll get nobody shortly thereafter, and blow your budget on oatmeal 4. Watch someone else pay less money for better players, later 21.5M for an amalgam (Turner and IKF) that probably combine for 3 WAR while taking up two roster spots... while the incumbent 3 WAR 3B ends up signed for less. Sweet.
