Man it might!
You never know how changing the seating structure might change the way air circulates
And the reduction in foul territory will obviously increase scoring, it's just a matter of how much
Yeah if the tweet is true then he is an idiot. If there are like, three teams who might want you and want to pay for you, it's so dumb to rule one of them out.
He can blame himself for the pillow contract.
And what hitter takes a pillow contract in San Francisco...
Okay but it completely changes the discussion around him and the budget.
"Toronto jumped the gun and then did not have room in the budget to afford him" is ********, if you believe this tweet.
"Toronto was told they were out so they spent money elsewhere" is more correct.
Under 27 years old = get better
Over 29 years old = get worse
In the middle = sideways (or pure statistical regression)
Some exception for veteran SP who tend to just be good until they get hurt or their velo dips below a certain point
Yeah fair to assume that when Toronto pulled the trigger on Turner, Boras was still holding the line hard on Chapman
These Bellinger and Chapman deals probably happen in like one day after the player finally lets it be known that they will take this kind of deal
I feel like the decision was made when they signed Falaffle
The Turner signing did take up the most budget but it's a pure offense signing
Falaffle just doesn't make sense for this team at his price if he's going to be a utility player. The cost says he's the primary 3B.
Don't be dumb
It takes 6+ years for most of these kids to develop. If you're looking for "impact MLB players signed since 2016" you are essentially just asking how well they did in the 2016-2018 years. Kind of a butthole of a question dude
Nah they do okay here
Moreno, Orelvis, Leo Jimenez, Otto Lopez (RIP), Robberse, Zulueta, Kendrys Rojas
Getting any international player NEAR the big leagues is a win
Most of it can be explained by the developmental system being bad. Symptoms of the same problem.
When you aren't confident on your internal depth you can't really wait out free agency.
That being said, most teams misread the off-season. When the dust settles there will be a handful that read it right and profited. Cubs are one, Giants are two I guess. We will see who gets Snell for $25M.
Yeah not even I can defend this
Atkins off-season is like when you play an auction draft in exactly the wrong way.
1. Try to get the elite players but just miss
2. Correctly don't react and overpay for the second tier guys
3. BUT completely panic that you'll get nobody shortly thereafter, and blow your budget on oatmeal
4. Watch someone else pay less money for better players, later
21.5M for an amalgam (Turner and IKF) that probably combine for 3 WAR while taking up two roster spots... while the incumbent 3 WAR 3B ends up signed for less. Sweet.
