  2. Also, their two 1B/DH (LF?) additions are barely upgrades. They've added like, 6 wins for 2014. Maybe.
  3. Erasmo 4 lyfe
  4. Right, it would just depend who you're talking to. AA obviously valued him highly even on the big contract.
  5. I think it would go: Edwin Bautista Dickey Rasmus Morrow Reyes Buehrle But I didn't do the math on it, and it would be different depending on who you're trying to trade with. A team with deep pockets would probably value Reyes more highly than Morrow or Rasmus, but a team with a tight payroll would recognize that on his current contract he's basically a non-asset (same for Buehrle, a non-asset but a team with money might love the idea of paying for his bankable innings).
  6. Nobody? I know what point you're trying to make but honestly, it's pretty thin. It's entirely possible to weigh the case specific likely outcomes and value projections without being some type of absolutist that would always take the 'guaranteed" production. And to this point, the line of conversation here was simply that Dickey in 2014 is a better production bet than Guasman. I think Price is a better production bet than Salazar next year as well. So.... yeah.

  8. Agents: Scott Boras [*] Also, it's not like Jeff Baker is particularly good at baseball.
  9. Well I imagine that one of the #4/5 spots right now is basically Happ's to lose.
  10. Doesn't even necessarily have to be a major upgrade for the trade to be worth it. One of my points was "upgrade Moises Sierra". You don't exactly need a baseball Costco to find a selection of better RHB platoon guys with a bit of defensive utility.
  11. Really, it should be a good old fashioned spring training pitching battle for that last spot or two. I'm guessing that Drabek and Redmond still have a couple of option years left, so they have the outside track, but for a team that is trying to win now it would be pretty dumb to roll with Happ if he looks crummy and one of them looks sharp. And if McGowan looks great in spring, then they should give him a shot. It's not like he has a track record to project from - he's basically just a piece of talented poo that they're throwing at the wall. Assuming health and not considering options, I think everybody would prefer to see Hutch and Stroman as the #4/5 given the current depth chart, but that's just not very likely to happen in the context of the current roster.
  12. I guess the only ? would be workload. 117.1 innings in 2012, 123.1 in 2013. College reliever the two years prior. Is he stretched out enough to start the year in a big league rotation, or should he be building up a bit in the minors? Maybe they build him up slowly in AAA with innings / pitch caps for a month or two before calling him up to inevitably replace struggling Happ or broken Morrow.
  13. The point here is that Dickey and Gausman have similar 2014 upsides, sure, but Dickey has much less of an uncertainty/risk factor.
  14. Trevor Bauer Dylan Bundy Danny Hultzen wait a minute...
  15. Sign Mark Ellis (or any small projected 2B upgrade, Brian Roberts would probably have liked a bit more than $2MM) Sign better bench pieces (specifically, make it so that Moises Sierra isn't the team's best RH bat off the bench) Trade Aaron Sanchez for a sizable rotation upgrade
  16. That's right AA, stop investing just as your flurry of woefully inefficient moves have taken your team to the point where investing heavily in the short team actually makes A TON of f***ing sense. 2 or 3 wins could be the difference between playoffs and layoffs, millions of dollars in profit... but go ahead, just stand pat.
  17. This had to have been before they signed Ellsbury, right?

omg I hope the Leafs lock up Phaneuf forever.
  22. Definitely
  23. I don't think you'd have to project Salazar for even 150 innings for him to be considered a far better asset. Note that I'm not saying Salazar will be better in 2014 necessarily.
  24. In the context of right now, making exactly zero assumptions. Just looking at years of control, cost, and sane, well reasoned projections. The only reason that Tampa hasn't already traded Price for Salazar (or a similar asset) is that they know they can get some buffoon in the fog to give them even more.
  25. Which, of course, means exactly diddly s*** going forward.
