    The February cut-down date applies to both MLB and MiLB rosters. This is the deadline to cut down to 20 roster players AND 12 prospects. If you were thinking of keeping 20 MLB players and then having a window to promote some prospects before you had to cut your minor league roster down, that would not be possible. You would have to promote those excess prospects into your top 20 MLB dudes at the cutdown. The waiver draft takes place after this happens and after Yahoo opens up. Basically, we assign the 400 keeper players to our 20 league teams, and almost everyone left over in Yahoo's available players list is eligible to be waiver drafted, save for owned prospects and minor leaguers who haven't touched AA. Waiver draft will probably take place in a thread on proboards, like we did our prospect drafts.

    I can certainly see why the Cards would want Reyes, but it's so hard to see it happening. I'm not even sure if they could fit his full salary on their payroll right now. I think their situation is pretty tight, but I'm not sure. I'm certain that Toronto would be sternly rebuked if they asked for either of Miller/Taveras, let alone both of them. The Cards would likely give up Martinez to get Reyes, if they have the payroll space, but Martinez alone probably isn't enough to make it worth it for Toronto. What else could St. Louis add? Maybe they could put Allen Craig in the deal, since 1B isn't big enough for him and Matt Adams, and it would free up a bit of payroll space. But then Toronto has a hole at SS and they're trying to win in the present... Anyways, it's all moot because Reyes is almost certainly on AA's "untouchable / would not trade" whiteboard magnet list.

    I really don't get what there is to not like about it, unless he thinks it will lead to diminished stuff, which I wouldn't be able to comment on obviously. You could understand why a less violent delivery might take a bit of life off of his pitches though. Or maybe he's just not a fan of that type of mechanical tinkering in general.

    This is the type of compartmentalized thinking that leads bad teams to do misguided things like trade for Michael Morse because their lineup really needs a "right handed power presence". It doesn't matter that JPA has power and power is less common in baseball than it used to be. What matters is that JPA is a poor hitter, all things considered, and a fairly terrible player. He was an above average hitter for the catching position from 2011-2012 (pretty sure), and he was still, quite easily, a below average catcher overall. Players don't get much more expendable. If you can get something back for JPA's "power", then it's a no-brainer... which is convenient, because I'm not sure how many brains are left in the Jays FO.

    Well, optimism isn't exactly warranted. It's sane to be hopeful about the upside, but he'll probably "fail". Of course. I see Sanchez as a purely clickable commodity that simply failed to click last season. He'll either take off one day or he never will. He didn't really take a step back last year, he just treaded water. Likewise, Stroman will probably never be in impact starter.

    But there are definitely lots of "stuff" prospects that actually turned into big s***. Homer Bailey really struggled for a few years in both the minors and the majors, but now he's a strong #2. Ubaldo was a lot like Sanchez in the minors. Jon Lester wasn't that awesome in the minors. There's also the obvious hall of fame example guys like Randy Johnson or Koufax early career.

    Highly doubt it. He just had a 2.7 win season - he's not going to get paid like a mediocre bench player. Look for him to get an AAV higher than Lind's 7 million, and probably for a couple of years. Someone could get really stupid and give him even more than that.

    Sanchez vs. Stroman is a really fun debate right now. It has to be basically 50/50. Stats and Peripherals: Large edge Stroman Age vs. Level: Slight edge Sanchez Proximity: Edge Stroman Stuff: Edge Sanchez Polish:Stroman Intangibles: Stroman Physical profile: Sanchez Stroman looks like a sure bet to be at least a late inning major league reliever, with the upside of a mid rotation starter. He could even exceed expectations and be a very strong #3 or arguable #2 starter. Sanchez could be a legitimate Ace if everything clicks, or he could be a guy who can't even out innings out of the bullpen if he can't consistently throw strikes.

    I take this as a compliment coming from someone who thinks that signing James Loney in free agency is a good idea. If you DIDN'T think I was dumb then I'd be kind of upset, honestly.

    Sure. Gold gloves and batting average. James Loney is a terrible idea, sorry. They'd be buying high on a guy who will be vastly overrated in free agency and projects to be a below average first baseman, all things considered. An Adam Lind platoon would be a much, much better idea.

    Pretty sure that James Loney has never won a gold glove or hit .300 in a full season... not that any of those things would even matter lol
