  1. No, he has a mailroom background.
  2. Anyone you see on the free agent list? It's a pretty good idea especially if you can identify failed starters like Morrow with a plus (or plus-plus) FB and a true out-pitch.
  3. No when it comes to predicting future performance. Also, Cotts career ERA = 4.05 FIP = 4.25 xFIP = 4.08 I don't even know what you're talking about. You always write these lines and lines of text which never seem to surround any convincing, thoughtful points. I think you should try to be more concise, more thoughtful, and more researched. To be honest it just seems like you type a mini-essay based on what's at the front of your mind, right or wrong.
  4. Belisario is a really good buy low target. ~5.5 ERA vs. ~3.5 DIPS.
  5. "... With the exception of draft selections awarded to a Club pursuant to Major League Rule 4©(2), all of a Club’s draft selections will be subject to forfeiture pursuant to subsection 4©(i) above, including draft selections obtained through assignments, draft selections obtained in the Competitive Balance Lotteries and Forfeited Draft Pick Lotteries, and draft selections awarded as compensation pursuant to subsection 4( above." 4(: "The former Club of a Qualified Free Agent subject to compensation shall receive an amateur draft choice (“Special Draft Choice”) in the next Rule 4 Draft. Clubs that have lost Qualified Free Agents subject to compensation shall receive a Special Draft Choice in the reverse order of their won-lost percentage in the recently completed season, with the selections beginning immediately following the last regular selection in the first round of Rule 4 Draft." It appears that they would lose the Melky compensation pick.
  6. I think you can make an OK argument for David Robertson based on the following criteria: - His cost in $ is suppressed by the attached draft pick - The Blue Jays give up less of a pick to sign him than most teams, since their 1st already went poof with Martin - The Blue Jays ostensibly need a back-end RHRP - Robertson is the best RP on the market, and it's not even close - The Blue Jays are at a place on the projected win curve where it could make sense to pay something like $10M-$15M for 1-1.5 added bullpen WARz. Doesn't mean they should necessarily sign him, but it could be sort of defensible. Personally I'd rather spread the risk out a bit but I dunno. Might not be the absolute worst thing ever. Robertson is filthy. If he wants to come here and most of the other obvious popular FA targets like Lowrie don't, you upgrade the team where you can, right?
  7. It's definitely not good. If they don't sign anybody, 7th worst in baseball according to 2015 Steamer. The bullpen above with Grilli and Cotts is about 1 win better, so more like middle of the pack in MLB. Still possibly the worst in the AL East though (about tied with O's).
  8. Absolutely, if healthy. Huge "if" that we can't really evaluate though. Crain might even take peanuts for a big league deal though.
  9. I'd like Cotts and Grilli on 1 year deals. 34 and 38 years old, so I can't see why either of them would get much. Cotts could get 2 years since he's a lefty though. Guy - Projected FIP Grilli - 3.42 Cecil - 3.06 - LHP Loup - 3.59 - LHP Cotts - 3.47 - LHP but seems to have reverse or neutral splits (not sure) Sanchez - 4.53 (way wrong if he's an RP) Estrada - 3.98 Redmond - 4.26 Hendriks - 3.71 Delabar - 4.21 Jenkins - 4.31 Drabek - 4.24 Rasmussen - 4.27 Obviously you'd want a second backend RHP is Sanchez is starting. Gregerson destroys RHB but... money. Logan Ondrusek could be a decent cheap option coming off of a gross ERA but ok DIPS w/ K rate. Likely this is the area that I would target in trading Navarro - a RHRP with backend potential.
  10. Since when? Source? I'll I've ever seen on him is 80 grades.
  11. Agree with RIPEXPOS. Turner has pure 80 speed + could stick at SS. I thought he was a better bet than Pentecost too. He's also not that risky because he's a college guy, starting at SS so he can slide around the diamond almost anywhere. Pentecost has a rounded skill set but no impact tools. More importantly, catcher defense is so intricate these days that the best thing to do IMO is wait for MLB data and then acquire a backstop that you absolutely know can catch and throw at the big league level, call an MLB game, frame MLB pitches, blah blah blah. Trying to develop your own catcher is pretty risky because until they get to the big time it's hard to really know if they are even a viable defensive player. I'd rather draft the up the middle guy with an impact tool and if I have a hole at C in the future, try to acquire someone like Grandal or Montero or even Hanigan. Someone you know can frame a pitch and do most other defensive things well.
  12. Andrew Miller + Dellin Betances... good luck coming back against the Yankees next year.
  13. I'd stop short of calling him obviously great. Sure he's done some great s*** this offseason, and years ago, but where were his smooth talking skills last offseason when he did f*** all?
  14. I would be a great GM if I could just line up a bunch of hypothetical trade scenarios and signings in a spreadsheet and communicate with GMs and agents solely through text messages and emails. Unfortunately, a massive part of making any trades or signings happen is soft skills. To be a great GM you need to be able to build and maintain a rapport with most other front office characters in the league, as well as most player agents and even players themselves. And you have to do this within a necessarily competitive environment where everybody wants to get you smiling before they bend you over the ottoman (tmi?). I could easily propose a Lawrie+ for Donaldson trade to Billy Beane, but would I be able to effectively build a relationship with Beane and communicate with him in a specific recurring way in order to pry the cost controlled MVP candidate human being baseball player out from the grasp of his greedy green hands for as little as possible? No. Not a chance.
  15. Holy f***. First off, the trade sucked balls both in context and in hindsight. That's already been said. Nobody gives a soft turd about the baseball fight. That's just a hilarious point to bring up. 3.9 WAR in 2013 paid for his entire contract and then some. Projected for 1.7 WAR in 2015, only getting paid $5M. Should return about $10M in surplus value next year.
  16. nox = the real wet blanket that everyone needs. simmer down, ladies.
  17. ilu nohomo
  18. Still not sure what Aaron Cibia's positive clubhouse qualities were. Did he have a massive unit that made everyone giddy, or something? The guy always strikes me as decidedly arrogant, entitled, and smug. He's really nice if you have Leukemia or something on twitter though.
  19. He means giving Thames the LF gig.
  20. I had no idea you were so verbose and plump!
  21. Most people without loose screws were of this opinion: - The trade sucks on paper, but... - At least the Blue Jays will be fun to watch next year! Public opinion can suck eggs. Essentially irrelevant. Handsome Jake could still be pretty decent. Yunel Escobar was a total wasted asset. DeSclafani and Nicolino are probably going to be cheap long-term, below-average contributors for Miami.
  22. Guy is pretty gross.
  23. You should have hated the Miami trade in context, and you should definitely hate it in hindsight. The fact that you don't is scary. Are you dumn?
