  1. I don't think they can move Johnson after trading Semien. Their 2B depth chart is basically 1. Carlos Sanchez, 2. Nothing. Really, all of their relief arms outside of the 2 they just acquired are pretty bad/mediocre...
  2. I think the Cubs would probably concede that they'll regret this. Lester was above average but nothing special for the three years prior to 2014.
  3. Lester picked a pretty good time to have a career year. Career low ERA and a four year high in K%.
  4. lol the DBacks are dumb but they're not nearly that dumb.
  5. Not much info but he's 33 years old and people seem to think that over here he'd be more of a 2B. Guy hasn't missed a game in 10 years though so he's probably another insane rubber stretchy athlete dude like Ichiro. Every bat out of Asia seems to be left handed. Another recent comp coming over would be Nori Aoki. Aoki was a much better hitter in Japan.
  6. Comparing his slashlines to Kawasaki in Japan, it looks like Toritani is comfortably a better hitter. His career ISO is about .050 points higher and he's hit double digit homers multiple times, while Mune peaked at 4 knocks. Toritani has been peaking as a guy that walks more than he strikes out. Mune peaked in Japan as a 2:1 K:BB guy. Batting average similar. Mune had more impressive SB totals, ~30 vs ~15. Toritani's career OPS is only 0.060 points higher, but the K/BB might mean that his abilities will translate over a bit better. Kawasaki is a .240/.310/.315 true talent hitter, more or less. If Taratino can hit just .250/.330/.360 or something like that, he could approach being a somewhat average regular assuming he's a good 2B.
  7. That is - Takashi Toritani http://www.baseball-reference.com/japan/player.cgi?id=torita001tak Basically, just this article being ref'd by that guy on twitter.
  8. Never underestimate the stupidity of the DBags.
  9. Navarro for Ziegler is even money + fills a short term need for both teams.
  10. A bit early but I think I might take this thing.
  11. Yup. Farrell said the exact same things when Boston wanted him. Angelos' statements are just public posturing and nothing more. They are not sincere. DD can still fully honour his contract up until he / the Blue Jays end up making an agreement with Angelos to terminate the contract. These situations always turn out the same. If Duquette really wants to leave, then he's gone. Angelos isn't going to make a guy stay for four more years in an awkward situation. That's not in the best interest of Baltimore either.
  12. welp, back to the off topic sub for me. http://www.gifbin.com/bin/102011/1319738930_homer_simpson_hides_in_hedge.gif
  13. Beeston is like 70 years old. The writing has been on the wall for a while. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/beestons-future-with-jays-uncertain-beyond-2014/ They're probably pretty far along in the process already.
  14. Is that a problem in and of itself, or does it just indicate / lead to a cascade of other events that constitute a timing issue?
  15. BJ had absolutely garbage mechanics. The "inverted L", as it's called. The poor mechanics made his arm really late - leading to really forceful arm rotation (elbow and shoulder stress). Really, it was a miracle that his career lasted as long as it did.
  16. You probably know a lot more about hockey prospects than I do, so I won't make any arguments on the specific player.
  17. What do you guys think of Robertson's mechanics? His release is obviously very unique (late) and his arm looks really late at foot plant: I'm not the best at evaluating that kind of stuff but I know that showing the ball to CF at plant is a red flag. And I know that having the pitching elbow behind the shoulder at foot plant is bad. And I know that the pitching arm forearm should be horizontal when the trunk starts to rotate... I believe that ideal (low-stress) mechanics involve being "cocked" at foot plant and showing the ball to the corner base. Much less stress on the elbow. http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/slides/photos/003/563/831/hi-res-4fe1310ac4b859af040778d9aefbcb88_crop_north.jpg?w=630&h=420&q=75 But, of course, stress can = more velocity. Lots of pitchers intentionally "stay long" and keep their arm "extended" as long as possible, showing the ball to CF at foot plant. Matt Harvey has bad mechanics I believe. http://www.thefantasyfix.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/matt-harvey.jpg
  18. Even apparent thoroughbreds that come out of the Q like Drouin and Huberdeau seem to have trouble becoming impact NHL players. It's a really weak league.
  19. LMAO @ "shredding up the Q".
  20. President/CEO is about being both a strategic planner for the organization and being a day-to-day manager. It's about surrounding yourself with people who can excel in their specific roles. Organizational culture is top-down from the President/CEO. The President/CEO of the Blue Jays curates organizational policies and oversees financial management. It's not just about being a liaison between ownership and the GM, and a PR face. The President/CEO is the most important employee of the organization in a long term sense.
