  1. Navarro for Ziegler is even money + fills a short term need for both teams.
  2. A bit early but I think I might take this thing.
  3. Yup. Farrell said the exact same things when Boston wanted him. Angelos' statements are just public posturing and nothing more. They are not sincere. DD can still fully honour his contract up until he / the Blue Jays end up making an agreement with Angelos to terminate the contract. These situations always turn out the same. If Duquette really wants to leave, then he's gone. Angelos isn't going to make a guy stay for four more years in an awkward situation. That's not in the best interest of Baltimore either.
  4. welp, back to the off topic sub for me. http://www.gifbin.com/bin/102011/1319738930_homer_simpson_hides_in_hedge.gif
  5. Beeston is like 70 years old. The writing has been on the wall for a while. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/beestons-future-with-jays-uncertain-beyond-2014/ They're probably pretty far along in the process already.
  6. Is that a problem in and of itself, or does it just indicate / lead to a cascade of other events that constitute a timing issue?
  7. BJ had absolutely garbage mechanics. The "inverted L", as it's called. The poor mechanics made his arm really late - leading to really forceful arm rotation (elbow and shoulder stress). Really, it was a miracle that his career lasted as long as it did.
  8. You probably know a lot more about hockey prospects than I do, so I won't make any arguments on the specific player.
  9. What do you guys think of Robertson's mechanics? His release is obviously very unique (late) and his arm looks really late at foot plant: I'm not the best at evaluating that kind of stuff but I know that showing the ball to CF at plant is a red flag. And I know that having the pitching elbow behind the shoulder at foot plant is bad. And I know that the pitching arm forearm should be horizontal when the trunk starts to rotate... I believe that ideal (low-stress) mechanics involve being "cocked" at foot plant and showing the ball to the corner base. Much less stress on the elbow. http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/slides/photos/003/563/831/hi-res-4fe1310ac4b859af040778d9aefbcb88_crop_north.jpg?w=630&h=420&q=75 But, of course, stress can = more velocity. Lots of pitchers intentionally "stay long" and keep their arm "extended" as long as possible, showing the ball to CF at foot plant. Matt Harvey has bad mechanics I believe. http://www.thefantasyfix.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/matt-harvey.jpg
  10. Even apparent thoroughbreds that come out of the Q like Drouin and Huberdeau seem to have trouble becoming impact NHL players. It's a really weak league.
  11. LMAO @ "shredding up the Q".
  12. President/CEO is about being both a strategic planner for the organization and being a day-to-day manager. It's about surrounding yourself with people who can excel in their specific roles. Organizational culture is top-down from the President/CEO. The President/CEO of the Blue Jays curates organizational policies and oversees financial management. It's not just about being a liaison between ownership and the GM, and a PR face. The President/CEO is the most important employee of the organization in a long term sense.
  13. No, he has a mailroom background.
  14. Anyone you see on the free agent list? It's a pretty good idea especially if you can identify failed starters like Morrow with a plus (or plus-plus) FB and a true out-pitch.
  15. No when it comes to predicting future performance. Also, Cotts career ERA = 4.05 FIP = 4.25 xFIP = 4.08 I don't even know what you're talking about. You always write these lines and lines of text which never seem to surround any convincing, thoughtful points. I think you should try to be more concise, more thoughtful, and more researched. To be honest it just seems like you type a mini-essay based on what's at the front of your mind, right or wrong.
  16. Belisario is a really good buy low target. ~5.5 ERA vs. ~3.5 DIPS.
  17. "... With the exception of draft selections awarded to a Club pursuant to Major League Rule 4©(2), all of a Club’s draft selections will be subject to forfeiture pursuant to subsection 4©(i) above, including draft selections obtained through assignments, draft selections obtained in the Competitive Balance Lotteries and Forfeited Draft Pick Lotteries, and draft selections awarded as compensation pursuant to subsection 4( above." 4(: "The former Club of a Qualified Free Agent subject to compensation shall receive an amateur draft choice (“Special Draft Choice”) in the next Rule 4 Draft. Clubs that have lost Qualified Free Agents subject to compensation shall receive a Special Draft Choice in the reverse order of their won-lost percentage in the recently completed season, with the selections beginning immediately following the last regular selection in the first round of Rule 4 Draft." It appears that they would lose the Melky compensation pick.
  18. I think you can make an OK argument for David Robertson based on the following criteria: - His cost in $ is suppressed by the attached draft pick - The Blue Jays give up less of a pick to sign him than most teams, since their 1st already went poof with Martin - The Blue Jays ostensibly need a back-end RHRP - Robertson is the best RP on the market, and it's not even close - The Blue Jays are at a place on the projected win curve where it could make sense to pay something like $10M-$15M for 1-1.5 added bullpen WARz. Doesn't mean they should necessarily sign him, but it could be sort of defensible. Personally I'd rather spread the risk out a bit but I dunno. Might not be the absolute worst thing ever. Robertson is filthy. If he wants to come here and most of the other obvious popular FA targets like Lowrie don't, you upgrade the team where you can, right?
  19. It's definitely not good. If they don't sign anybody, 7th worst in baseball according to 2015 Steamer. The bullpen above with Grilli and Cotts is about 1 win better, so more like middle of the pack in MLB. Still possibly the worst in the AL East though (about tied with O's).
  20. Absolutely, if healthy. Huge "if" that we can't really evaluate though. Crain might even take peanuts for a big league deal though.
  21. I'd like Cotts and Grilli on 1 year deals. 34 and 38 years old, so I can't see why either of them would get much. Cotts could get 2 years since he's a lefty though. Guy - Projected FIP Grilli - 3.42 Cecil - 3.06 - LHP Loup - 3.59 - LHP Cotts - 3.47 - LHP but seems to have reverse or neutral splits (not sure) Sanchez - 4.53 (way wrong if he's an RP) Estrada - 3.98 Redmond - 4.26 Hendriks - 3.71 Delabar - 4.21 Jenkins - 4.31 Drabek - 4.24 Rasmussen - 4.27 Obviously you'd want a second backend RHP is Sanchez is starting. Gregerson destroys RHB but... money. Logan Ondrusek could be a decent cheap option coming off of a gross ERA but ok DIPS w/ K rate. Likely this is the area that I would target in trading Navarro - a RHRP with backend potential.
