  1. Just in case you were wondering.... literally all of your pitchers are 40 and possibly retiring mid-season, and about 4 of your starting position players have become utter s***, even for a 20 team league. The bolded names suck! 2nd Leg to Stanton (therealmin - TRM) BATS Yasmani Grandal Ryan Howard Kelly Johnson Josh Donaldson Erick Aybar Adam Jones Matt Holliday Michael Cuddyer Hanley Ramirez Alex Rios Giancarlo Stanton Martin Prado ARMS Dan Haren RA Dickey Kyle Kendrick Robbie Erlin Hiroki Kuroda Craig Kimbrel Tyler Clippard Jonathan Broxton Luke Gregerson Joe Nathan CJ Wilson Jeff Samardzija Jake Peavy Bartolo Colon
  2. Well look at this s*** bird that decided to pop in...
  3. Depends on how his partial season goes this year. If he leads the league in ERA and starter K/9 and adds those accomplishments to his ROY, 3rd place CYA finish in 2013... hard to say.
  4. Yeah but Medlen's came two years later. He was perfectly healthy in 2012 and 2013. I just cannot for the life of me understand why a team that itself publicly states that it needs pitching won't just give Medlen a few million. But, maybe they have an agreement to sign him back for some tiny incentive laden contract or something.
  5. Lincecum settled for $9M in first year I think, with the team filing at 8 and him filing for 12. Ryan Howard's first year was $10M I think. Certainly Fernandez would be awarded something more than $4M, if he continues to be a phenom.
  6. Holy f***, Braves non-tender Beachy AND Medlen. Medlen could probably get a f***ing multi year deal right now. It was just TJS. Beachy a bit different because the TJS came while recovering from an initial TJS, so he'll just get a flyer contract from someone.
  7. Definitely more. More like Lincecum's.
  8. Jesus Christ the Cardinals are annoyingly smart. Matt Belisle for 1 year, $3.5M. Guy has been very stellar for a half decade in Colorado and his FIP and velocity were just fine last year.
  9. Trade for Fleury!
  10. Maybe if they have Andrew Miller lined up, but otherwise, yeah. The Devon Travis acquisition certainly makes one think that the Blue Jays would be on someone like Souza. It all depends. Lots of time to sort the roster out, acquire another lefty, etc.
  11. I think he's just holding his ground on a previous offer to Melky that was much lower than Cruz's 4/$58.
  12. He makes no sense as a backup C, part time DH. Smoak is probably a better hitter and a significant defensive upgrade at 1B over Edwin. AA and Navarro should both want him to get traded pretty bad. I would basically give him away to save the $5M, personally, but I doubt it comes to that. Someone should flip an interesting reliever for him....
  13. Alexei, Semien, or Anderson. Alexei for Shark is actually pretty fair.
  14. I think it's likely that they overrate their own roster, and don't realize that players like LaRoche, Gillaspie, Viciedo, Garcia, Danks, Flowers, and some of their top RP are complete f***ing plugs.
  15. Gordon Beckham expected to get non-tendered. Not very interesting anymore but I could see the Jays bringing him in to bridge to Travis.
  16. Not really though, when you consider the incumbents. Ackley ~2 = Travis ~2 (0) Kuma ~3 > Happ ~1.5 (+1.5) Bautista ~5.5 > Saunders ~2.5 (-3) Team trades a star and gets worse.
  17. Melky is worth more than Cruz. If Cruz gets 4/$57, Melky should get about that + a year. Not the he necessarily will...
  18. Past injury rate does predict future injury rate to some extent, but I think people drastically overstate that effect. What you see if this type of categorical analysis - talented players like Lawrie and Saunders become "would not acquire" guys because they are "made of glass". That's not an intelligent way of approaching it. If you think Saunders will miss 10% more time than an average LF due to injury, then apply that to his reasonable projections (which already include past playing time and this injury risk, btw), adjust his value, and make a rational decision. 2.0 WAR in 120 GP is better than 1.5 WAR in 162 GP (unless your backup OF is much worse than replacement level).
  19. You really obfuscated your point with that last line. Are you saying you're the 1 person in the world who wouldn't want to acquire Forsberg at any given point during his hockey career? He got hurt a lot last year, sure, but in the two years prior he played over 130 games. I guess the shoulder issues in his career have been sort of recurring, but it's not like he's a pitcher.
  20. Dude is in his physical prime, is a career 110 wRC+ hitter, can play D, has power and speed, strong projections, and would probably be pretty cheap given the situation (everybody and their mother knows he's getting dealt before the season).
  21. Bob Dutton ‏@TNT_Mariners #Mariners aren't done. They would prefer to have Cruz serve as DH. So they're now looking for find a right fielder. Could still be in the mix for Leche
  22. It's really like buying a new car. Sticker price might be $57M but as soon as you bring that thing home, the most someone is going to give you for it might be half that...
  23. His nickname is "The Condor". Who f***ing cares how much he gets hurt?
  24. The relationship with Saunders is so torn that Seattle will probably end up settling for the best possible offer, even if it's just some B- prospect at the end of the offseason. Seattle could use another good hitter (current projected lineup is probably Cruz RF, Ackley LF, LoMO 1B, Jesus Montero DH; Cruz DH and LF on occasion depending on context). They could also use quality SP depth. Their top 5 is fine but their #6 and #7 SP don't inspire much confidence (Brandon Maurer and Erasmo Ramirez). With Taijuan Walker (rookie), Roenis Elias (injury scare), and James Paxton (sophomore) in the rotation, someone like JA Happ who they could slot into a swingman role might actually appeal. I honestly don't think a Happ for Saunders swap is out to lunch.... Saunders is more talented, 4 years younger, and he has an extra year of control, but financial costs are similar and the relationship between Saunders and Seattle is in tatters and the whole world knows it.
