  1. Well for one thing, Headley is probably going to get like half that money.
  2. It's just based on final standings.
  3. Melky's best seasons came when he was 26 and 27 years old. Obviously we don't know for sure that he's done his peak, but based on the performance curve of an average player, his best seasons are likely behind him. The average players peak in their mid to late 20s. That's just our best guess, and anyone's best guess really. It's not absolutely going to be true. The fact that Melky had an excellent looking season where he basically maxed out his hitting abilities, tagging almost everything, and he was still only slightly above average in total value... doesn't really bode well for his future value IMO.
  4. They aren't paying for 2011-2014 Melky. They're paying for 2015-2017 Melky. 6 WAR in 3 seasons would be like, an 80th percentile outcome for Chicago.
  5. They're still so far from the playoffs though IMO. 2B, C, RF, 3B all suck. Melky and LaRoche are overrated, league average players at best. All of their SP depth is crud past the top 3. All of their RP suck after the two FA signings.
  6. Decent deal for Chicago if true. Seems fair.
  7. This will probably be the year that Chris Sale's elbow finally explodes.
  8. That's not very many years! Pretty surprised he couldn't get four.
  9. He's certainly beeeeeg and strooooong.
  10. Every time I've seen Smoak play it's like he's swinging a pool noodle.
  11. Yeah he's got surprisingly little pop. Big enough to muscle 20 out of the Rogers Centre, but he's not going to be hitting many second deckers or anything. This is evident in his minor league SLG and OPS along with the MLB ISO.
  12. No. In all honestly it's probably just Boras leaking fake Blue Jays interest to the Japanese media in order to increase Toritani's leverage. Maybe all Toritani wants is more money from his NPB team so he hired Boras to fake legitimate interest to cross the ocean.
  13. lol @ a mean projection that low. Goins ranked 112th in wRC+ out of the 119 2B that Steamer projects. At least he's projected to outhit Cesar Izturis though.
  14. Yeah I don't trust any offensive numbers from Korea
  15. Who really knows. Fiers throws like 88. If he gives up some homerz in spring training, he could lose the gig, projectable talent be damned. Recall that this isn't the first time that Fiers has "emerged".
  16. Throw is Handsome Jake and Jackie Bradley and we might have a deal...
  17. Yeah he certainly looks like a viable SS, at least in highlight packages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrmjJs5Ak_Q
  18. lol 4 years for Asdrubal. I guess it's possible when the market is so weak.
  19. Well I might think about moving Steve for Harvey or Correa.
  20. Obviously I like my own side of the trade but I think you might be buying into Pearce a little too strongly. Like I said, Steve Pearce is OTB so make me a wise offer, puta.
  21. A lot of those guys were out of favour on their clubs for relationship reasons but I wouldn't call them "bad eggs" by any means. Only Melky really had any past off the field issues. ECab is a different animal with his issues and with AA's more recent ostensible focus on clubhouse chemistry I really doubt that he's even in consideration. It goes beyond a basic buy-low which is essentially all that Melky, Rasmus, Escobar, and Saunders were (and Morrow).
  22. And Saunders and Smoak! All defensive upgrades, and some of them very significant (at least I'm assuming Donaldson over Lawrie is a numerical defensive upgrade).
  23. lol, I don't think it's a bad trade. Fowler is two years younger and he's a CF eligible who has a long track record of posting decent numbers and had a 124 wRC+ even after leaving Coors. Pearce didn't even get 400 PA last year.
