    So Aaron Blair alone might be better than Shelby Miller. --- Braves RHP prospect Aaron Blair spun seven no-hit frames Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Gwinnett. His night was done after 87 pitches. Durham DH Patrick Leonard eventually broke up Gwinnett's no-hit bid with a double off Madison Younginer in the eighth. Blair faced one batter over the minimum and didn't allow a base runner until the sixth inning. His 10 strikeouts were a season-high. Atlanta acquired the 23-year-old last offseason in a deal that sent Shelby Miller to the Diamondbacks.

    I don't agree with that at all, actually. I pretty much consider Sanchez house money at this point.

    Whiffs don't always correlate precisely with K rate, although they're the best predictor of future K rate. Not every pitcher throws every pitch intending a swing and miss, Sanchez is oriented towards grounders and mostly goes to his whiff pitches (curve, change) in 2-strike counts. If he stays around 8-9% whiffs, we can probably expect his K rate to land in the 7-7.5 per 9 range, which is probably what most of us expect anyway. That's just fine.

    3.02 xFIP as a starter this year. Improvement is possible. To what extent this improvement is sustainable remains to be seen.

    That's not totally unexpected with a "suddenly clicks" pitcher. Sanchez isn't nearly as raw as he was for most of his minor league career. Besides, it wouldn't take much at all to be better than his minor league numbers.
