    Say what you will about Angelos, but he did put together a strong front office. After getting a taste of playoffs this year, and offseason lobbying by that front office, it could happen. They are the team with the low payroll and the young talent that can easily absorb the cost of Soto (and the locals are well familiar with Soto from has Nats days = ticket sales).

    If that is the case, that is incredibly stupid, saddling oneself with a bunch of long term contracts to get a short window of contention.

    Mookie the WAR leader, ahead of Acuna. Did not expect to see that. Soto a fair bit down at #13. With his s***** D I doubt he hits top 5 again.

    Nah, just one of the possible destinations among many. There could be some interesting suitors, Seattle for example. I could see Baltimore trading some surplus young talent for him.

    Absolutely, anything can happen. It's all part probability and part luck in the playoffs.

    Padres do have, somehow even after the graduations and trades, a pretty good farm system, with a few strategic trades/moves (Soto and Kim for prospects) they can reload in a short time. If they don't and Soto and Kim and others leave for nothing, they are going to be bad for a while.

    Would have no problem with a Manoah trade. Guys that big with weight issues very rarely get in better shape. Far more likely he comes into camp next spring with even more fat.

    Discussing Jays chances in the playoffs is rather useless. Every non-bye team has a more or less equal chance. We should not be surprised if even the f***ing Twinkies end up as AL champs, by babiping their way to wins. The NL is somewhat different, with Atlanta being a fair bit stronger than the other teams.

    I used to think so too, not after reading Tom Tango's comments. The eye can't tell if another player makes the spectacular play look relatively routine. Defensive metrics take the play difficulty into account.
